Ray is looking to upcharge you and take longer than it actually takes to do the work. He charges for 2 guys $150-175hr no matter what you need done. I used him for a small project at a rental house In Soquel. He strung out the time on the job and charged me double or more of what it should have cost. I needed it done soon. He has an edge to him, and he seems very nice and tries to be your best buddy at first, but hes very intense and easily flips if you question anything. He called for work a week or 2 ago asking if I had any projects for him. I then called back and had a small transformer issue at another house. He said that basically he might be there all day without even looking at the job. My radar went up another red flag. He to make it seem like everything's going to take a long time. He hadnt even asked me what the issue was! Again he had to bring another guy for a simple transformer issue for some track lights in a ceiling. Then he shows up 40 minutes late gets out of his car and starts to talk down to me. Insane. He has no customer service skills and is very aggressive, I would not recommend him to anyone for anything.

Had a great experience with Ray when we needed some wiring work done. He did very clean work, is fairly quick, and is friendly as well. It's my understanding that he prefers larger jobs, so if you have a small job you may be waiting awhile. Worth the wait if you can, IMO.

I personally recommend RS electric 100%. I have hired other electricians in the past that come up with some questionable charges and shady character. I have used Ray to do work on both my two homes and I have found him to be honest and reasonably priced. I would recommend RS to my friends and family and will continue to use him for all future projects.

I was considering whether or not to post a review of this guy as I try to give the benefit of the doubt to small businesses and only post when they are truly awful. However, this guy was truly awful in my opinion. Ray was not recommended by any of the local Watsonville folks I consulted for a referral, but he was the only one available on one day notice-- now I know why.
I just wanted someone to come look at a circuit breaker that was prone to tripping when the vacuum was plugged in and another circuit where the power was blinking. From the first call, without ever seeing my home, he tried to upsell me on a bunch of new things like entirely new subpanels. This continued after he arrived, along with his annoyingly calling me ""Stace"" as if we were somehow buddies. I asked what his basis was for saying I needed new subpanels and other things he was trying to sell me and he could not have been more condescending, saying it was his ""eighteen years of experience."" I told him I needed an actual reason and he repeated it was just his experience and he didn't need to justify it. He finally said something about a bus with some surface rust but could not or would not explain what the issue was and why it couldn't be cleaned anyway. My own licensed electrician had no issues with my subpanels when he serviced them six months ago.
Ray's upsell continued as he tried to negotiate spending free time in my vacation home for doing unspecified work on my electrical systems that I don't believe I need. I told Ray's helper Alex that I thought Ray was behaving like a total jerk and the helper smiled and nodded. I finally had to tell Ray that the condescending and fairly aggressive way he was speaking to me was completely inappropriate.
Just one week earlier, I had had my main service panel replaced by my main electrician (who lives in SF so couldn't come to my home this day on short notice). The panel was installed properly, with inspections by PGE and the County as well as my licensed electrician. However, Ray spent a few minutes alone with my main panel then called me over and claimed some of the connections were loose -- he flopped them around to demonstrate -- and that it must have somehow escaped the attention of three professionals who all signed off on it. I suspect Ray loosened them himself while I was going to look for my shoes to join him outside since he was doing nothing else but standing around and needed to justify his presence to try to charge me double per hour.
Note also that Ray insists that you pay for two men for a total $160/hr rate even for something as simple as inspecting a circuit breaker. He claimed they needed two men to investigate my issues and it would save time, to which I said it should take half the time then. Then when he arrived he claimed I had agreed to pay for a full hour for two men - not true. Ray spent most of the hour he was on my property standing around and barking to his helper who was only measuring voltage at my subpanel and replacing a single breaker. I was the one running upstairs and downstairs turning things on and off to measure voltage with helper Alex, while Ray stood around some more.
I refused to pay him on site as I was considering how to handle the utter lack of value he provided, and his helper and I did the actual work. I then received a barrage of text messages demanding payment. I just received another text message from Ray stating ""I better see that check before Saturday."" Or what, Ray?
I will send him a check for his helper's time and the breaker the helper installed but as Ray did absolutely zero and I believe he actually meddled with my main panel, I will not be paying for his time at all.

I have had a couple of awful experiences with electricians in the Santa Cruz area so I was surfing yelp trying to find a better experience and I found Raymond. I just wish all the trades work as hard and have the integrity that RS Electric has. My job was done on time, on budget and Ray came up with some ideas I hadn't even thought of with my remodel to help me save some money. I can't wait for him to come back for phase two. I highly recommend him.

I used rselectric for my business, the electrician provided a electric-saving controls plan that would help keep my PG & E cost to minimum. Although my buisness required a great deal of lighting to enhance the natural color of my apparel; the fixtures were selected and placed directly over specific areas where the natural light did not enhance the store. The end product produce a great appearance and contemporary look that I was looking for.
