I usually go to Donner Memorial Campsight but they were booked so we found this place! I really liked it! The fire pit is nice, the bbq's are convenient and they have bathrooms (just toilets no sink). The sights (there are two campgrounds..1-the family sight and 2-the lakside sight [we were at the family sight])are pretty big so you can easily fit 3 tents. There are no bear boxes which really sucks because you literally have to pack everything back into the car every single time you want to go somewhere.
Other than that the camp hosts kinda suck. The first night there my sister showed up (from Reno) to hang out with me and within 20 minuets the host lady drove up and was demanding my sister to pay $5 to park overnight. It was 5:00 in the afternoon so we hadn't even gotten into the evening. We paid the $5 just because and then ate dinner and my sister and her friend left. It was pretty rude of her to interrupt us in the middle of our conversation.
I would still come back but only as a last resort if Donner is full! Maybe if that happens I can try the lake camping sight, they might have different hosts?

Have to disagree with Jared J. The camp host at Lakeside is a wonder! She is friendly, knowledgeable, and super helpful. We found that she went over and above what was necessary to make our experience a great one. If you don't want to abide by the rules Jared, don't go there. It's nice that dogs are on leashes and not running through camps and that ""most people"" keep a clean camp so there is no bear problem. The rules are there so that everyone can enjoy the nice campground and lake. Lose your ego Jared and play by the rules. I would highly recommend Lakeside for someone that wants a nice place to camp, that is clean and well run.

The camp host here thinks that she is a cop. She drives around in her golf cart monitoring all the campers. I woke up in the morning to find a note on my windshield telling me what items I was not allowed to leave outside at night. My dog was not on a leash and she went berserk. She told me she was going to call the sheriff. When I said that she probably called them a lot she said I was right. She grabbed my dog by the collar and tried to take off with him. This nut would make a better prison guard.

Very clean. Bathrooms are easy to get too. Have first come first serve spots and also reserve spots. Spots with and without electric. Dogs are allowed on leashes. Fire pits have a grate that rotates to cook over the fire or rotates off the fire. Also have a small grill beside the fire pit for grilling with charcoal. Picnic area could fit 10 people. Campsites are large.

There is still some water. Bare beaches need a cleanup from all the lazy people who can not take out what they carry in.

On our Sunday hike, and hit up Prosser.....
The reservoir is VERY low, but I found a great place to drive down close to the dam to walk Luna on the other side of the dam. Luna and I followed the creek heading east towards I80 and found many nice spot for her to swim and a few places where beavers had made dams and homes..... I thought for sure that we would be the only ones hiking down on the trails that day, but three other people with their dogs where right behind me for a great walk/hike with their furry babies.........

I'm a fan!!!!!!!! Great place to hike with your dog off lease :)

Prosser, Boca & Stampede are all big dirt holes with varying levels of water near Truckee. That being said I chose to camp @ Prosser due to the fact that they have a speed limit, so no annoying boaters, mostly just kayak, paddle boards, and a handful of fishing boats.

There are two campsites - Lakeside (near the lake) and the more wooded Prosser Family. We then picked Lakeside thinking we'd access the water better. We tent camped in the sea of RV's and it was just OK. Pretty dusty, lots of ATVs, but for the most part people were alright. At some point 12 cars pulled in, set up a bounce house with a generator, canopies, and tables and had a big b-day party for kids, then tore it all down and left at sundown. I didn't think this was a day use area, and I overheard them talking about the reservations they had - so that was interesting.....

Of course it wouldn't be camping without the dumb drunk party people somewhere, but even they shut-it down after midnight.

The camp host was hosing out the restrooms (pit) when we arrived and they were fine for vault potties. Purchased firewood from him for $7,No showers.

I probably wouldn't go back, but it wasn't the worst ever.

Also I drove up 89 towards Sierraville to check out the Lower and Upper Little Truckee campgrounds and those are horrible too. Close to 89 where you see traffic streaming by, tiny creek (not in view), and the Lower place is half dead trees and stumps- UGLY!

Beautiful, peaceful, good fishing.

The morning mist covering the water was idyllic.

Trout fishing - caught approx 5-6 fish between two people.

I had an amazing nap under the warm sun.
