Hear me out. It's worth it.

Had a panel issue. Wasn't clear what it was, but I wanted a real pro. So I sorted by highest rated electricians.

The highest rated electrician on the East side of LA? I got curious because it read like they might be a consolidator, meaning they farm out work and take a commission, which makes their ratings pointless.

Lo and behold I looked it up - and they're operating on a suspended contractor's license. Which is obviously very bad.

So I pinged a handful of others closest to me. The fairest price for a visit/diagnosis was Preferred Electric. But wait, so few ratings, how can I trust them?

Looked up their license. In good standing, current and active for 35 years? So why not, I rolled the dice.

George was not only on time but early. Friendly. Nice. And most important, diagnosed the issue on the spot, had the parts in his truck, and charged a genuinely fair price.

Summary: The highest-rated electrician on Yelp is a scammer. And seriously professional guys like George, who only got around to Yelp recently (and so have few reviews) look like amateurs. When the reverse is definitely true in this case.

I agree with other reviews that George is on time, likable and professional. He did a good job updating an electrical outlet and adding another and installing a new range hood. However, he charged an exorbitant amount of money for the job. I would say he charged me twice what the job was worth. So much in fact, that I'm too embarrassed to tell people what I paid. I would suggest that you get other quotes before using him. I was in a pickle and didn't have time to shop around.

We found Preferred Electric in the yellow pages when power went out to our home in the middle of a torrential rain storm. Our 1929 house was still powered by the original fuse box ... not good, and we are lucky we had no fires. George was extremely professional, likeable, and very thorough in identifying the first and most critical upgrades needed ... replacement of that old fuse box by several circuit breaker boxes. He made us a priority, and after several visits, our house is now safe and efficient electrically. I agree wholeheartedly with all the previous Yelp reviews for this company and would not hesitate to recommend them.

I had Service Entrance Panel problems created a SunPower Authorized Dealer installing My Solar System. George to the Rescue. He Inspected the panel and corrected the mistakes made by the unprofessional installer. Electrical Panel equipment must be installed properly in order prevent fire hazards.
