We live in a 100+ year old Victorian and wanted to install a Nest doorbell in a spot without a visible existing electrical source.

I had about 4 different electricians come in. The answers varied greatly, from very convoluted solutions (we'll plug in a power source in the living room, bring the wire across the floorboard, bring it up over the doorway, drill through the wall, bring it across the top of the front hall, over the front door, and down the wall), to ""it cannot be done.""

Powerhouse Electric offered the cleanest solution: they would use the power source from the basement, right beneath the front door, and use a drill with a very long attachment to go through the wall and reach that power source. They also had the least expensive quote at $154 per hour, with a minimum of one hour.

Of course there were many unknowns; there might be blockages in the wall, this being a very old house. I spoke to the electrician, Scott, on the phone and he was helpful and explained the worst and best cases. In the end, he said ""I'm really good at what I do"" and was confident it wouldn't end up being a crazy long job. And that if it was starting to look that way, he would let me know immediately, without running the clock crazy long without my knowledge.

In the end the job only took one hour! They tried one idea that didn't work (opening up part of the ceiling in the basement of what looked like a power source. It ended up being nothing, and they closed it up neatly) but then went with going down the wall with a drill with a long attachment. Our Nest camera is nicely installed!

However, I was surprised the 1-hour job cost $310. It was because there were two men. Maybe it's obvious to others that the ""$154 per hour"" was actually ""$154 per hour per person"", but I haven't worked much with contractors, and that was never clarified to me. $310 was a fair price, sure, but I was just a little surprised by it. I just wished they had clarified the quote was per person to set my expectations correctly.

Separately, I also want to note the receptionist at Powerhouse is incredibly friendly and sweet! A pleasure to talk to and work with. When Scott completely missed an appointment, she immediately apologized and admitted fault, as their calendars had had issues syncing recently.

Very professional, prompt, reasonably priced, and most importantly, solved the issue with my tenants' heater. Scott showed up with the replacement parts and tools in hand and was done in less than 30 minutes! Would definitely hire again.

Great customer service. A fellow condo owner had posted on our community board recommending Scott and Powerhouse Electric. When my heater was not working, I dug up the old community posting and called Powerhouse to come look at the heater.

Scheduling was very easy. Scott came on time, assessed the issue quickly and said I would need a new heater and he would have to come back. He offered to pick up the needed heater himself, and we quickly made a appt for him to swing by the following week. One week later, he came by, on time, and did the work quickly. Reasonable pricing. Easy going, nice person to work with.

Highly recommend. Easy, pleasant experience.

I highly recommend PowerHouse Electric. They did several electrical jobs in my unit, all required critical thinking, and the results were perfect. I will use them again.

These were not easy jobs. Evidently the original bathroom fans in this San Francisco high rise were oddly installed with some type of permanent liquid nails or epoxy and it required some work to get them out. The electrician was clever enough and had additional materials to resolve the issues. He also pointed out a lot of lint buildup within the fans (you can't easily see this). This is what you can't get to with a simple exterior vacuuming. Who knew? It's suggested that every few years you remove the fan cover and then vacuum. It's possible the lint buildup could catch fire and PowerHouse has seen that happen. Thankful for their knowledge.

They also installed a backlit mirror in one of the bathrooms. It also required some outside the box thinking, and it simply looks amazing.

Powerhouse came and installed can lighting and a ceiling fan in the house, plus changed other wiring for better efficiency. They were very professional, got the work done in a timely fashion, and explained options to me.
They cleaned up everything and the finished work looks great! I would recommend Powerhouse Electric to anyone in need of an electrician.

I'm recently replacing my bathroom fan, and I have a recommend from my building management, so I use Scott from Power House Electric. Our appointment was at 9:00 am in the morning, and he came around 9:30 am. He hasn't started his work until 9:45 am because he was talking to the phone. Then later, he want out twice for about 10 - 15 minutes each time without notifying me where he was going or doing. Finally, the job was done by 11:30 pm, and he charged me for 2 hours of services. Then I told him that I will pay him for only 1.5 hours because his wasn't fully used 2 hours to do his job. He was mad and said "" you are so cheap, if you don't have money, don't use my services."" Next day, I call him for a checkup because the fan was making a big noises even when the power is off, and it seems to me that the installation has problem, but he never call me back. I'm so disappointed about his service, so I won't recommend this company, please AVOID.

We had Scott, from Powerhouse Electric, do a number of electrical jobs for us: changing fluorescent lighting to LED, adding lights in closets, kitchen, installing light fixtures in bathrooms and dining room. He is reasonably priced, comes when promises, and does a good job. We were very happy with his work and his friendly demeanor. Heartily recommended.
