We've owned a duplex in the Miracle Mile district for 20 years. About a month ago, we discovered after a routine inspection by the city that our smoke alarms were not to code. We had relatively new (3 years old) battery operated smoke detectors that worked fine but the city requires apartments to have the smoke alarms hard wired. (We lived in the the duplex for seventeen years so were unaware of this rule). Upon completion of the inspection, we were given only thirty days to comply.

After searching on Angie's List we found Gabriel Chan and Power Up electric. We did not have time to get multiple bids on this project, however, we were so impressed with Gabriel's knowledge, customer service and professionalism that we had truly no reservations going into the project. Gabriel was ALWAYS available (either by phone or email) to answer questions and to walk us through the process. In fact, I cannot think of a single time during work hours where my call went to voicemail -- Gabriel always picked up after the first or second ring.

It was a three-day job and involved some intricate scheduling because both units have tenants who not only live there but also work out of their homes. Gabriel's electricians Frank and Jose were incredibly professional, kind and were willing to work around the tenants' needs. They were immaculate in their work and they also handled ALL of the permits required by the city and arranged for the required pre-inspection by the L.A. Dept. of Building and Safety.

It is Monday, 8/31 and I'm writing this review just an hour after Building & Safety signed off on the work. Additionally, I will be meeting with them again this afternoon to get an estimate for another job.

I NEVER take the time to write reviews, but I was so impressed with Gabriel and his company and, in this case, I felt it was important to commend a company that goes ABOVE AND BEYOND what was needed. As you can see, I am already planning to use them again and I would not hesitate to recommend them to friends, family, other property owners, etc.

I found Power Up Electric on Angie's List. They had very high reviews on Angie's List (Top of the class). I spoke with at least 5 electricians to get a quote on an extremely minor switch change. Most of the other electricians did not answer the phone right away, so I had to play phone tag with the majority of the electricians I called. When I called Power Up Electric, they answered the phone right away. In fact every time I called, they answered, so that definitely sets them apart on that point alone. I spoke with Gabriel Chan on Monday and he made every effort to try to move his schedule around to come and see me the same day. He provided great service, his price was very fair. I received several quotes from quite a few electricians and Gabriel at Power Up Electric gave the best quote.
Responsive, Fast, Great Service, Fair Price. I will definitely use Power Up Electric in the Future.

Purchased and Angie's List special to address an outlet that was not working in the living room. 2 and a half hours later Frank and his helper had not only gotten the outlet working, but they'd also isolated an ancient smoke detector that was causing a potential fire hazard, fixed that and moved an outlet in the bathroom that was not up to code. They were so nice and professional and cleaned everything up afterwards. The patching they did was perfect and the new hole Frank cut for the bathroom outlet was exactly the size it needed to be.

Did I mention that they prevented my house from possibly catching on fire?

I will definitely have them back to do other work. Thanks Power Up!

I needed an outlet added to a light switch-Gabe returned my call quickly and sent Frank, the nicest, most knowledgable electrician I've ever met. He came early (!), and quickly added the receptacle, and even gave me some helpful advice about energy efficiency.

These guys are top notch professionals. Booking with Gabriel was easy, he fit me into the schedule the week I called. Marco and Wilson came to install a ceiling fan and they were professional, knowledgeable and courteous. I have already hired them to do another job. Do yourself a favor and call these guys, make sure to ask for Mark and Wilson!

An overhead light started flickering followed by a breaker tripping in my house. I knew that meant faulty wiring somewhere so called Gabe after finding him favorably rated on Angie's list. Although I didn't call until late morning, he said he could come out same day. He ran a little later than he told me, but I assume that's because he was squeezing me in. He chased down the problem to a faulty outlet, and replaced it after checking the box and everything on the circuit. Took the trash with him and explained what happened and what to watch out for in the future. Would definitely call again.

I called the business to make an appointment for some recessed light that won't work.
The owner answer the phone, and after some probing questions, he said that someone will be there in a hour! Gabriel (the owner's son) shows up exactly a hour later. He is super nice and professional ,and fixed the problem pronto!
They will handle my future business for sure!

Considering it was a terrible situation--was informed my place had an electrical fire, fire dept. on scene right before I boarded a plane--these guys made solution quick, efficient and seamless.

As my landlord loves to have things rigged in the house, I was informed a fire occured in my bathroom. I came home no ceiling and the smell of a high school bonfire. The next day Frank and two other guys inspected the damage, informed me of the process, went out to obtain materials, then came back and got to work.

They re-routed exit vents, installed a new light, patched up old outlet and most important, PROPERLY wired the bathroom up to 2014 codes. Professional crew who knew their stuff. Not sure of cost as I didn't foot bill but in life you get what you pay for and whatever the cost, they were a steal.

Gabriel is the man. After getting another estimate from a guy who barely looked at the situation, Gabriel came in and did a thorough look around.
He helped us figure out exactly what we needed.

We needed to upgrade our service, run new ground, and rewire the whole house. He didn't pressure us to do the whole job and just handled the new service and ground allowing us to do the rewiring ourselves.

He walked us through the whole process, was very patient, and very helpful. The job was done quickly and without hassle.
