Since 1982, Positively Electric has been a trusted name in the Pleasant Hill community. We provide high-quality electrical services at reasonable costs for both residential and commercial clients. Founded by Jon Szabo in 1982, Positively Electric started as an electrical contracting and supply business located at 40th and Webster. In 1992, we transitioned to our current location, closing the supply house to dedicate ourselves to contracting. Justin, Jon's son, joined Positively Electric as an apprentice in 2000. In 2005, he received his journeyman license, followed by his contractor license in 2009. After Jon retired in 2010, Justin assumed leadership of the company. Our loyal team consists of skilled professionals who have been part of Positively Electric for over two decades. We actively participate in community service, including volunteering for PALS, a center located in Richmond.
Justin joined Positively Electric as an apprentice in 2000, working under the guidance of his father Jon. In 2005, he obtained his Journeyman license, followed by his Contractor's license in 2009. After Jon's retirement in 2010, Justin took over as the owner of Positively Electric.

Justin is awesome, professional and thorough. We have relied on him for our home electrical needs and have not been disappointed.

Justin at Positively Electric was great. I needed a motion detector installed and a broken switch evaluated and repaired, if possible. He came within a couple of hours of my call to him, was friendly and professional, and got the installation job done quickly. He said he would need to come back for the repair and I'm happy to hire him to do so.

Don't you love it when people tell you that you don't know what you need, but they do? I need a circuit breaker replaced. Positively electric says, I don't want to waste a trip if you don't need a new circuit breaker. I told him I lived here for over 30 years, I've not had to replace one yet, but have reset them. I'm disabled and in a lot of constant pain, which can get worse if I move the wrong way. I don't want to go out there again when I have already tried this so many times.
I quickly gave up on this guy. It's possible that the wiring may need to be replaced, as it has been many years. He missed out because he wouldn't believe a customer knows what is needed.

After a decade of saving, my husband and I recently purchased our first home, a 1911 cottage in Fruitvale. One of the most daunting tasks in getting the home safe and up-to-date was replacing the knob and tube electric. The house was so old there were no outlets in some of the rooms & even old gas lines running to some of the ceiling lights.
We got quotes from several electricians. As we toured electricians, Justin and his sidekick, Darren, were the only ones that weren't daunted by the job. They were engaged and crawled around the crawl space assessing things quickly and efficiently. They gave us a very reasonable quote - we had one other that came back at a similar price, but Justin's easygoing personality, obvious work ethic, and knowledge sealed the deal to go with PE instead. We found some electricians were slow to respond etc., but Justin was quick to respond to our initial inquiry, quick to get out to give us an estimate, and quick to get started on the house. Not something you get with all contractors who are swamped in the Bay Area's booming market.
Justin has helped guide us in a PG&E meter move as well as getting permits with the City (no easy feat, but made stress-free thanks to him). They're in the process of re-wiring the entire house currently, but I felt compelled to write a review before they finish. Even though we haven't moved in yet, they cleaned up the house at end of everyday (something I greatly appreciate even though it's unnecessary). They've been very precise & neat in drilling a ton of new outlets. So much so that we're saving a ton of money in not re-doing walls. Justin has been incredibly flexible with a few changes to our original light/outlet placement and my husband's wacky decision to try out a tankless electric water heater. Justin has also spoken on the phone with my husband who is on the East Coast for work, but wants to stay up to speed while the work is being done. He goes above and beyond to be sure all of our questions are answered. Sometimes running through things with my husband on the phone and then me in person. He's very patient and I appreciate that.
Justin took over the business from his Dad and it's nice to support an Oakland-based, family business. Justin has proven to be trustworthy in having his own set of keys to the house and our security codes. Everyday, he has left the house closed up perfectly and the alarm set. His attention to detail and conscientiousness is a blessing. We are so happy we found him.
Can't recommend Positively Electric enough!

Justin doesn't seem to be suffering from that ""I only take big jobs worth lots of $$$"" affliction that a few other highly rated Yelp electricians have. Not only that, he's wayyy reasonable on his rates and is super down to earth cool. Didn't mind explaining everything...actually seemed like he liked doing that.
I'll be needing a bigger job done one day than the one he did for me (would love some recessed lighting). When that day comes, he will be the man.
Thanks Justin! Stay cool.

Positively Electric just completed a second major job for us. We couldn't be happier with both experiences. They spend enough time in the beginning to understand what you really want, and offer suggestions to make the job better. (LED conversions for existing recessed ceiling lights is the way to go!) They coordinate well with other contractors, and are completely reliable and dependable.
The first, about four years ago, we were doing a complete remodel of bedrooms and bathrooms. Very major, including moving the electrical panel. The current job was the electrical for a studio apartment remodel. Beautiful work!
Main thing for electrical work is safety. I have total confidence in the quality of PE's work.

I've been in the process of a full condo remodel for the past six months, so I've had my share of workers over to complete a number of tasks on my place. Every time PE had a team over to work on my place, the guys were warm, they knew what they were doing and they helped me work through details they could have easily either left out or talked down to me about. They helped me to get my place to be exactly what I wanted it to be with as much ease and grace as I could have expected.
If you are trying to decided whether or not to go with Positively Electric. I am going to make the decision super easy. Do you want to guess at whether or not you are going to get friendly, professional and timely service? Of course you don't! With these guys, you will get all three every time.

I LOVE Positively Electric! Justin started out with a small job for me, for which he was prompt, efficient, and VERY reasonable, and then took over a list of electrical fixes for a house that I am selling.
I cannot express how wonderful it is to have Justin in charge. Everything got done expeditiously and without much excitement, even though PE had to make some changes to our original agreement in order to get everything fixed. Worked out beautifully. I am one HAPPY customer.

If there were 6 stars I would give them! Or even 16! I live in a very old house and a lot of work needed to be done. They were positively amazing! Fast. Easy to work, sweet to my dog, helpful beyond the call of duty!
Example 1: I have never seen anyone who works in the plumbing, electric, repair or home service CLEAN UP after themselves. The plumber leaves boxes, fix the window there's all sorts of dirt to clean up. NOT with these guys.
Example 2: a stray kitty i have been trying to care for killed a huge mouse and left it on the porch, they removed the mouse just because they didn't mind.
Example 3: I felt safe and as if I could trust these guys so much that I left my house while they were working.
Example 4- They worked outside while it was raining didnt complain cancel or stop
Example 5- They smoked off my property at a great distance to not bother me.
Also note they did all of this with OUT my asking.
Amazing!

My landlord hired Positively Electric to fix a wiring problem in my apartment. They were timely, courteous, explained what was going on and fixed the problem quickly. We will call them first if we need any more electrical work and would recommend them to family and friends.
