Petre is the Electrical Whisperer. We had a mystery circuit at my house that two different electricians and another contractor couldn't figure out with several hours of time invested; Petre figured it in under an hour, did the testing, and clearly explained the whole thing. This guy is a cut above.

We have used Petre several time to do electrical work in our new home and as the previous reviews stated, Petre was punctual, friendly, and very competent. The last time we used him, we had a problem with only part of the house having electricity. He checked all the systems and concluded that all the systems were functional and then using a pair of binoculars he was able to diagnose the problem. The wire from the electrical pole outside our home seemed worn. He recommended that we call PGE and tell them that he thought there might be a problem with the connection and his good detective work was correct. PGE came in the next day and indeed it was the connection that Petre predicted.

I would highly recommend Petre as an electrician. He came to my house in the morning, gave an estimate (for 4 recessed lights in my kitchen) and completed the work by that afternoon. He started on the drywall patching and gave us recommendations for completing the drywall work.

I called Petre on a Sunday. Unlike the other 10+ electricians I called that day, Petre actually answered the phone. After I explained that both my fridge and stove were out because of an electrical issue, he said he would come to try to fix them that day. He arrived early Sunday evening (who does that!). It was a complicated situation and he resolved it after 2.5 hours. He was personable, professional, and knowledgeable (he has a background as an electrical engineer). In our initial conversation he told me what he charged for the first hour and then what his hourly rate was for every hour beyond that. He was true to his word on the cost. He is coming back to fix a small issue this week and I plan to use him in the future.

Petre and his son arrived promptly to install a new ceiling light fixture and re-wire a complicated set-up involving a bathroom vanity light, an exhaust fan and a heat lamp. We wanted three separate switches, one of which would be a timer-switch for the heat lamp. We had only a 2-switch outlet box. Petre solved the problem with rewiring and half-height dimmer and switch along with the timer. They adhered to their quote and did not mark up the cost of the new ceiling light box, bulbs and switches. Like all workmen, best to get a fixed quote rather than time and materials. Capable electrician.

Was quoted $275 for installation of outlet for power & HDMI cables above fireplace (including running wires/cables in wall to outlets above fireplace). Petre said he would do the installation of the tv mount there too for maybe 300-400 more. Petre & another guy showed up and worked on both jobs at the same time. After they were done Petre says it took longer than expected, extra costs for two persons working on the job (even though it was the same two guys at the house the previous day to estimate the work needed for the job) and all of a sudden we owed $1120 without any prior warning. Nearly double the original estimate!

We also went to home depot the night before to pick up supplies he said they needed to do the job as well, which was additional expense to the inflated bill.

Afterwards he claimed the higher bill was because the tv mount was larger than others he had installed before but the labor time for the tv mounting was very quick compared to the time they had taken drilling holes through the studs in the wall. Drilling to wire in wall should be something they would be experienced with & was a necessary part of the electrical work that was needed for this job. A lot of other time was used up by him looking & discussing other jobs he could do in the house including replacing light switches, main / sub panels etc, so it definitely wasn't all active labor either, but rather discussing several potential future work to be done by him.

We even told him not to worry about the other side of the wall facing the garage in order to make the job easier and quicker for them (in additional to providing a ladder and additional light that they needed to finish the job but weren't prepared to have themselves), but even after that, the bill was nearly twice the estimate. And the multiple large holes on the other side of the wall still remain...

We also had Petre give estimates on a lot of other electrical work needed to be done on our two properties which totaled over 6k (including 2 new panels & replacing old wiring, recessed lighting, outdoor lighting etc) but we no longer want to use him again because of the grossly inflated bill for this small job.

After voicing our displeasure that the bill was nearly twice the estimate, Petre did not honor his original estimate, but rather said he would only credit us $300 for any ""additional"" job IF we used him again. We told him that it was not going to happen based on the very bad experience we had AND his refusal on making this experience any better without trying to tie multiple large additional jobs to the original quote he had given.

Will be looking for a new electrician

We've used Petre twice for various electrical issues in our properties in Sausalito. He's always efficient and honest. I know he will follow up on his work if anything doesn't go well. He and his son is our go to electricians.
