In 1974, my dad launched Stilwell Construction, specializing in custom home building and additions. In 1980, I (Jeff) started my journey in the business, graduated in 1985, and moved to full-time employment. By 1990, I became a partner and contributed to the company’s expansion into both residential and commercial contracting. Up until we became part of the Mr. Handyman franchise in 2008, Stilwell Construction had renovated thousands of commercial and residential properties. Since 2008, I have owned and operated Mr. Handyman of Huntsville. I trust that the breadth of my experience and our company’s diversity prepare us to take on any challenge, whether in commercial or residential settings.
As the owner of Mr. Handyman of Huntsville, I chose this franchise for its professionalism and genuine commitment to delivering top-quality workmanship and customer service. I enjoy being a franchise owner because I collaborate with a company that embodies the values and objectives I have been taught since childhood. My goal is to ensure that our customers in the region have a trustworthy partner for all their repair needs, whether at home or in their business.

The roof ridge, about 8 ft long, blew off my 10x12 wooden shed about a week ago. I'm older, retired and not great on ladders anymore, so I called Mr. Handyman for an estimate. That ridge job estimate was $1000.00. Said the roof needed to be shored up underneath. Said it wouldn't take his weight. I told him ""No"". That was way way too much for the repair I had in mind.
He then said something about a service call charge. I said no, again. Their advertisement doesn't say anything about a service charge, and when I spoke to Angie (sp?) on the phone prior to dispatching the worker, nothing was said about a service charge. She blamed me for the service charge saying that I rejected the estimate after telling her on the phone that I wanted the work done right after the estimate. WAIT!! WHAT?? I guess she assumed that I gave them a blank check approval for whatever cost they felt happy with.
Who does business this way? A company has to tell you about a service charge BEFORE the fact, not after. That gives the customer the choice of whether or not they want the service. A service charge is NOT an afterthought. But Angi said, ""We don't work for free."" Neither did I during my 42 years as a technician, but our customers were informed ahead of time that there was a service charge
I wish I could give a great rating , but that was not my experience. The worker who responded was polite and well-presented, however.

Lee is awesome! He had installed several ceiling fans and lights for us. Professional, friendly service!

Didn't have the courtesy or professionalism to even reply to my inquiry. Don't waste your time on them.

I agree, run, don't walk away. There are no free estimates, like the top of the Yelp age suggests. They don't tell you about it either, until they are at your home and want you to pay $175 for an hour of work. I contacted Mr. Steele (or Steal) not sure of the spelling and told him if that's how they did business, then I don't want to deal with them. He told me he didn't want to deal with me so the feeling is mutual. Be warned.

We hired Mr. Handyman to come out and fix a hole in the wall, a small area in our kitchen where we had a leak, and a softball size hole in the playroom. Apparently this is $865 worth of work! They left my walls looking a mess and would not come fix it without charging more. Manager was very rude and had no interest in making the situation right.

I suggest you run from this company. They are a ripoff and very unprofessional. They canceled my appointment twice before finally coming out.
I hired them to:
1. Dust off and move a washer and dryer from the garage to the laundry room, which was just a few feet away, and install hoses.
2. Repair/replace patio light
3. Purchase garage door remotes and pair them to the existing garage door opener.
My credit card was on file. Total material charges were $81.40. They said they could not find the garage door remotes and my opener was outdated, so they could only complete items 1 and 2 above. They charged my credit card $814.33 without my approval and said since I allowed them to keep my credit card on file, that gave them permission to charge me this amount. The remaining monies they charged me were labor and time to research the remotes which they could not obtain, pick up a few parts and install them.

I hired Mr Handyman to diagnose and fix a leak in my balcony. I paid roughly $1200.00, leak is not fixed and they will not back work guarantee. On Mar 6, 2020, the technician came to my house, diagnosed the problem, and told me what materials I needed to buy and have ready for when he returns (cost: $236). On April 14, 2020, technician returns and makes repairs. Specifically, he ripped out the ceiling under the balcony, caulked around the edges of the balcony, and nailed a few pieces of plywood under the existing plywood (cost: $948.70 + material I purchased: $60). The first rain after the repair, the balcony leaked as bad as it was prior to the repairs. I talked to Mr. Handyman's owner and he agreed to come out with the technician and take a look. He and the technician tested the balcony for leaks again and determined it needed more caulk and advised me I needed flashing to fix it long term, but said this job would work for about six months (no cost for that visit). Next rain still leaking. I called the owner and told him it was still leaking. The owner would not agree to send the technician back free of charge as a guarantee of their work, but that I would have to pay the hourly rate (~$110/hour) for him to return. Not only would he not agree to come and make good on his repairs, he acted as though he did me a favor by coming back after the first failed attempt. From a consumer standpoint, I paid Mr. Handyman to fix a leak in my balcony. I paid them $1,200 to do so and my balcony still leaks. Their DONE RIGHT GUARANTEE states, ""At Mr. Handyman, we believe in exceptional service and quality workmanship, which is why we back every job we do with our ""Done Right Guarantee."" You can relax knowing we guarantee our workmanship and products we purchase. If there is a problem with the workmanship performed by a Mr. Handyman technician or with a product provided by Mr. Handyman, just give us a call and we'll send someone out to make it right."" Obviously there was a problem with the diagnosis and the workmanship. If there wasn't, my balcony would not currently be leaking. I literally feel as though I was just robbed of $1200. I think this is sad that this business feels as though they can take advantage of consumers like this.

Contacted this company over three weeks ago and still have not heard back from them. Apparently they don't need new business. I do not recommend waisting your time.

Disappointed. The technician was professional, but the work was poorly done. The technician missed the stud over 8 times, something I would not have expected from a ""professional"". He installed the load bearing beams crooked and left blue painters tape on the ceiling. For almost 350 dollars I would have expected a much better job. Experiences may vary depending on your technician.

VERY DISAPPOINTED; WOULD NOT RECOMMEND Called Mr. Handyman to inquire about shower tile grout repairs. A rep called me back promptly and proceeded to rapid-fire a sales pitch that sounded rehearsed. Was a little uncomfortable with the rep's buddy-buddy tone like we were best friends. I don't even know this man. He asked me a lot of questions like shower measurements, type of tile, etc and then said that I would need to provide all the materials. Then he started rattling off hourly wage rates, initial service call rate, cleanup rates, rates, rates, and more rates. It was very confusing, and I started to get annoyed. Asked him if he would mind sending someone to come take a look at the shower to discuss project in person and provide a quote. He said that he would love to come out if I didn't mind them charging me a $70 service fee. The tone of his last comment came across smug and sarcastic, so I hung up on him.
