EJ just finished a few woodworking projects for us and they turned out great. Every time I walk downstairs and see our revamped kitchen island, I'm thrilled. Our new bathroom shelves look great. And our huge fir worktable is now the perfect size. If you have woodworking projects you've been procrastinating on, call EJ! He's a pleasure to work with and takes pride in his craft.

We used Moreno to handle some work for our TIC to meet requirements for condo conversion. Given the relative simplicity of the work (as opposed to all the major renovations that are taking place in SF), we struggled to get a multiple bids from contractors.

Eloy and team were very responsive and treated us as if we were their best client. Beyond the solid work, excellent contacts within DPW, competitive bid, and timeliness and responsiveness, there was an element of human decency that extended beyond their work. As an example, my elderly parents were carrying some packages up a flight a stairs and one of his guys stopped his work to help them.

I would strongly recommend Moreno and team to handle any job you might have.

Is there a higher rating than 5 stars? If there was, I would certainly give that to Moreno Construction.

I bought a 1925 house in San Francisco that needed a kitchen refresh, a completely new bathroom, the garage opening widened, along with having the entire interior painted, upstairs hardwood floors refinished, and a myriad of other repair/maintenance projects that needed to be taken care of. My interior decorator introduced me to Eloy for the work. His bid was detailed and very fair, and he came highly recommended by her so I felt very comfortable awarding him the projects.

Eloy, Eloy Jr, Melvin, Jesus, and the rest of the crew moved mountains for me. I gave them only about 5 weeks to get things done before I had to move into the house. Eloy said he could tackle everything except the bathroom remodel before I moved in, and would be able to do that about 6 weeks later. He delivered. They worked until 6 or 7pm every day, and several weekends to make sure I could comfortably move in. And also as promised, they came back a little over a month later to do the bathroom remodel. All the work was permitted, and came out beautifully.

I am a single woman, and I was treated fairly and with absolute respect. They have taken incredible care of me and the house. They called all their clients after the last big rain storm to make sure everyone was OK and didn't need any emergency repairs. Not because they were looking to drum up work (they are in demand as it is), but to make sure their long-standing clients were taken care of first. And when I have had an emergency (always unrelated to their work, just old house issues cropping up), someone has come out either the same day or within a day.

This is the 3rd home remodel I've taken on, and Moreno Construction is by far the best contractor I've worked with. I can recommend them without hesitation or reservation.

Moreno construction is the best. My project was not very long, some repair to my deck and the adjacent siding, but they did it quick and it looks like new. I had another contractor out and he spent the whole time trying to sell me on residing the entire house and replacing the deck. Eloy gave me a fair price to fix what needed fixing only and it looks great!

I was referred to Moreno Construction by a long time friend. I was up against a deadline to get permits from the city to legalize construction that was done by the previous owners. Anyone that has been through a process similar to this knows how stressful it can be while everyone is giving you the runaround. Well Eloy really saved me a piece of my sanity and he took care of everything especially dealing with the inspectors. I actually wish I talked to him first because it would have saved me a lot more money, time, and most importantly a piece of mind. He was knowledgeable, professional, and easily accessible. You can trust that he will do a good job and will always follow up to make sure all the ducks are lined up in the right place. His team is just as professional and friendly. He is such a hard worker as he put in long hours even during the holidays. I plan to continue hiring the Moreno Construction team for future renovations and would highly recommend him to everyone else looking for a great contractor.

Came by to look at living room project. Said I would get a quote by next week. 3 weeks later and 3 unanswered phone calls........ crickets........ A courtesy call/email to say they are no longer interested would have been fine.

Eloy Jr. did a great job. I hired Moreno construction to install wood paneling on a couple of walls and then install shelving on the panels. The job required removing the dry wall and installing additional studs before closing the drywall and completing the installation. The end result looks great and demonstrates Eloy's artistic eye. All in all the team was professional, courteous and punctual. I would definitely recommend Moreno construction.

We contacted several companies when looking for contractors to help build a walk-in closet from a basement room in the house. Moreno Construction was the most professional, prompt and knowledgeable. They were very efficient while producing a high-quality product, offered a lot of recommendations and suggestions on various ways to reach our objectives and they even did a few extra things not related to the main project to help us out. They were great to work with and we will be using them soon for our bathroom remodel. Thank you Moreno Construction!!!!!

A couple of months ago I started looking into contractors for our bathroom remodel. After interviewing a couple of contractors, we decided to go with Moreno Construction.

Eloy Jr. is professional, friendly and easy to work with. He provided us with a detailed and fair proposal. When we accepted, Eloy Jr. explained the whole reno process and he suggested vendors we could use for our bathroom supplies which was helpful.

When the crew came to demolish the bathroom, they were polite, friendly and cleaned up after themselves.

Armando was great at seeing the project through with Eloy Jr. explaining his next steps for the bathroom. We had to order some extra supplies as the reno went along, however, they completed our bathroom in the expected time and fulfilled all of our requests.

My husband and I are very pleased with our bathroom! We love it! Thank you Moreno Construction, especially Eloy Jr. and Armando for the beautiful remodel!

We will definitely hire Moreno Construction for our future home improvement projects.

We hired Moreno Construction to completely renovate our kitchen, including demolishing a couple of walls. We tried to get bids from many different contractors since it was a major project for us, but had poor luck with many, who either provided no detail, refused to provide detail unless we signed a contract, never got back to us, or wanted to shape the project to suit their desires instead of ours. I have no idea why so many contractors think they can run a business this way, but that's another story.

In contrast, Eloy Jr worked with us over the course of a few weeks and gave us a fairly detailed proposal (but not enough detail, see the con below) without any pressure to sign anything. He was available to answer our questions and came by our house a few times that were convenient for us to discuss things. We selected them based on their ability and willingness to communicate openly and the fact that their quote was competitive and close to our budget. They also had good reviews on Yelp and their references spoke highly of them.

Once we signed the contract, they started right away and things generally moved pretty quickly, with a few notable and avoidable exceptions. They finished pretty close to their expected completion date and stayed on budget. Once the project was over, there were a few additional items that needed correcting, and they did come back to address them, standing behind their work.

It wasn't all sunshine and roses like the other reviews though. Here are some pros and cons as I see them.

Pros:

1. The crew was professional and polite and was good at cleaning up the mess.
2. They were efficient and punctual and even worked on some weekends to accommodate our schedule.
3. They finished within a week of the promised end date and with only a small cost overrun (noted below in the cons). Based on other kitchen renovation stories, this is unusual.
4. They handled all communications with the cabinet maker and replaced multiple door fronts until we were satisfied with the result.
5. The quality of the end product is pretty good.
6. They handled all town inspections and permitting at no additional upcharge (unlike other contractors who charged extra or required you to get the permit).
7. They resanded and put a final coat on the wood floor a few times without complaining until we were satisfied with the quality of the work (which was admittedly not that great the first couple times).
8. Both Eloy and Eloy Jr are very friendly and nice to work with. You never got the feeling they were trying to charge you extra or do work you didn't want.

Cons:

1. Communication deteriorated after the project started. While they had the major items covered, we had to keep track of little details so they didn't get lost in the cracks. We had to have multiple project meetings to go over things and I rarely saw anyone with a notebook. As a result, I had to remind them several times of the same thing. Everything ultimately got done, but prepare to be a backup project manager. For example, we did a lot of leg work on the granite slabs except for the final ordering (which was included in the contract), and in the end, the wrong granite was delivered to the fabricator anyway. If we hadn't requested to see it before it was fabricated, we would have had the wrong countertop. Another example is light placement - it took us to notice (early on thankfully) that one of the fixtures was probably going to end up pointing directly on top of the fridge door instead of in front of it.

2. Contract specificity could have been better. For example, the contract didn't specify where light switches would go and what they would do. Instead, we had a brief discussion in the middle of the project with Eloy Sr one morning while trying to rush out the door to go to work. In the end, there was a misunderstanding and a couple switches got put in locations that we didn't want. Because the final electrical isn't connected until the end, you may not knot what switch controls what until its too late. They fixed one for free but charged us $275 to fix the other. This could all have been avoided with more specificity in the contract. Light switch operations may seem like a minor detail on an entire kitchen renovation, but you'll be living with those choices for a long time, so better to get them right at the beginning. This applies to any and all of the smallest details (e.g. is the drywall going to be smooth or textured? ) -- get them down as specific as possible in writing in the beginning even if it seems to take forever. This will save you arguing at the end of the project. Make drawings and make copies and make sure everyone agrees.

I realize that lack of specificity is partially our fault and we will do better next time, but before signing Eloy insisted they would take care of any details to make us happy. To a certain degree they did, but not entirely. Better to just get it all down. Lesson learned.
