I notice there are some not so great reviews Yelp, which is unfortunate, because I was extremely satisfied with the service I received. We replaced an old fuse box with a newfangled switch box - something I had been avoiding for years. His quote for the job was reasonable, his electrician - Ivan - showed up on time, completed the work, removed the trash and swept the floor. He was courteous and never complained. For those of you have had a lot of work done on their home, you know how rare that is. While Mike himself did not do the job, Ivan knew exactly what he was doing and worked non-stop. Seriously, what more can you expect? I would highly recommend Mike's Custom Electric, and assume that any of the issues the earlier Yelp reviews complain about have been fixed.

Called on Friday, asked for a guy to come out on Monday. The office staff said the electrician would call on Monday when he was on his way over.
Today is Tuesday, still no call.
I'd give them some stars, but since they haven't even showed up or called, I don't know how many to give, so...

I'll begin by saying that--at the time--we were happy with the work that Mike and his guys did in our condo. But before the job was finished, Mike utterly and completely disappeared on us. He did not disappear with any of our money; he's a good guy, I'm sure, but he didn't finish the job.

I should have anticipated something like this would happen when Mike didn't show up for the first appointment we made for the work to start. On another occasion, one of the workmen showed up two hours late. When you take off from work to meet a contractor, you expect (or at least hope) that he will be on time.

The work that was done (some simple fixture installation, pot lights, and a track-light system) seemed very good, if slow. When the guys arrived late, that one day of work became two; that means we were living in a mess with no electricity in our kitchen and living room. Mike's men also sawed enormous holes in our drywall, which they do not repair. (A friend of Mike's came over to patch these holes for $250. And we still had to do all of the sanding and painting ourselves, otherwise he would have charged us $500!)

Mike was also very haphazard about accounting. I actually had to do all of the math myself and e-mail him repeatedly to figure out what we owed and how he wanted it to be paid.

Finally, one fixture remained to be installed on the job, but countless e-mails and phone calls to Mike's cell and his office went unreturned. When I eventually did catch him on the phone, he PROMISED he'd update me on his availability in a week's time. I followed up with him via phone and e-mail, and we got nowhere. After a dozen unreturned attempts over a three-month period, we gave up.

We didn't know what we were missing until we took a chance on Wiremasters, which not only charged us about 20% less than Mike, but also patched the walls, and were on time *every visit.* I cannot recommend Wiremasters enough.

It pains me to write this, because I'm sure Mike is a great guy. But he totally left us in the lurch . . . like so many other Miami-area contractors. *Sigh.*
