I go by Manny, short for Manuel, and I love that nickname! At 20, I embarked on my electrical career in Cuba, soon discovering my love for the trade, which led me to pursue my education and get licensed. After completing my training as an electrician, I joined a large company in Cuba that paid me a mere $10 a month—yes, you read that correctly, just $10 each month. After five years of that pay, I chose to take a significant risk and journey across the ocean on a boat I constructed with 11 friends. Two weeks later, we arrived in Key Largo, and I felt like I had been given a second chance at life. I soon moved to Miami for a year, then to Orlando, where I launched my career with Terry’s Electric, an excellent company that covered my schooling for four years. After finishing my schooling, I sought my journeyman license, and two years later, I aimed for my state license. Ultimately, after six months of dedication and long nights of studying, I successfully passed my test to become a Certified Electrician.
