I go by Manny, short for Manuel, and I love that nickname! At 20, I embarked on my electrical career in Cuba, soon discovering my love for the trade, which led me to pursue my education and get licensed. Once I finished my electrician training, I worked for a major company in Cuba that compensated me with only $10 a month—believe it or not, just $10 monthly. After five years of that pay, I chose to take a significant risk and journey across the ocean on a boat I constructed with 11 friends. Two weeks after our journey, we reached Key Largo, and I realized I had been reborn. I soon moved to Miami for a year, then to Orlando, where I launched my career with Terry’s Electric, an excellent company that covered my schooling for four years. Upon completing my education, I obtained my journeyman license, and after two years, I pursued my state license. Finally, after six months of hard work and late-night studying, I passed my exam to become a Certified Electrician.
