Mammoth Handyman
Company Overview
Once Mammoth Handyman, I specialize in basic home repairs, replacements, and modifications. Now, I hold my electrical contractor's license and am shifting my focus more on both residential and commercial electrical projects.
I enrolled in WECA, an apprenticeship for electricians, knowing very little about construction. Throughout the five-year training in commercial and residential electrical work, I acquired comprehensive skills in various electrical systems. Alongside this, I observed other trades, asked questions, and learned from my mistakes.
I graduated from the apprenticeship program on time in 2010, even though I was short on hours due to the 2009 market downturn, which caused a two-year slowdown.
I felt weary of being the lowest-ranked worker on the ladder. Reluctant to travel for extended durations, I encountered layoffs whenever the workload decreased. Consequently, I chose to build my own totem pole. Whenever I faced a layoff, I started making moves to start my own venture and cultivate it for growth. It was thriving, but I was presented with too many requests for jobs exceeding $500 (the cap for handyman work), and not enough jobs below that limit. Therefore, I scaled back the handyman business and focused on obtaining my electrical contracting license.
