Chad and Nick helped us out by installing numerous light fixtures. Chad arrived on time and needed Nick's help with some of the heavier installations which was to be expected. The electrical fixtures in our garage did not function properly, so we received three recommendations for electricicans in our area. Based on other people's reviews and my gut feeling, I decided to go for Luminous Electric.

PROS: The electrican showed up within the agreed time window, was very polite, courteous and knowledgeable He got the work done properly and cleaned up everything, also removed boxes, packaging material etc. So qualitywise, nothing to complain about, absolutely excellent work.

CONS: The pricing ! As noted by others already, their fees are very much to the high end. To be fair, they are very transparent and outright that they charge a fee of 49 $ for just showing up and providing an estimate. However, they charged about 180 $ for mounting two electrical fixtures on the ceiling of our garage. He also recommended to install a main surge protector which our somewhat antiquated electrical system did not have yet. We thought this was a smart idea, so let him proceed. In the end, we ended up paying almost 600 $ for mounting two fixtures (which WE had bought before, so there were no costs for material) and one surge protector. And this included a waiver of the 49$ ""show-up-fee""-already !

In fairness, we had asked about the costs and he was outright and open on those, so we could have simply said ""no"". However, given that he was on the site already, we otherwise would have sunk the 49 $ estimate fee and I was not keen to start the entire process with another electrician all over again, we somewhat reluctantly agreed to accept their high fees just to get over with it. As they do not disclose their fees (except the 49$ for the estimate) before they arrive on the site, I cannot help having the impression that they somehow bet on just what - a customer in need of electrical services who does not have the time or energy to send Luminous back just to start from scratch again.

So in sum: We were very satisfied with the service, courtesy and quality of work. We were quite displeased with the enormous fees they charge.

Had Luminous Electric come out to give me a price to install a ceiling fan. They wanted almost $600 to install an $89 fan. Absolutely outrageous. I then had to pay $49 for the estimate. Had the fan installed later in the day by a licensed electrician for $225.

Leaves me wondering if the $49 estimate isn't a scam. It's an easy way to make a quick $49 for not doing any work. Since when do you charge for an estimate???

Beware! They said they charged $49 for a service call that would be included in the price of the service. I asked them to look at a nonworking electrical outlet. He said it would be $200! He was also very rude and patronizing. Although I shouldn't have, I went ahead because I was in a rush. Then he wanted to charge me the additional $49 for ""travel time"". He quoted me on a new panel and I got a second quote that was half the price. The people I hired for less were much more polite and helpful.

Folks, don't be fooled by $49 service call. They have a structured rate that starts at $210 and goes all the way to $500+. They don't tell you this on the phone.

I think if they tell you about their structured rate in advance, you may go and shop for another electrician.

Be honest with your pricing, and don't bait and switch.

They came out on time and started to work on my project and even went for a part to complete the job. They gave advice and didn't push for a sale. Took their advice on my project and it turned out fantastic. Great technicians and great company to work with. They looked the professional part both techs in their grooming and uniforms. Professional people have more confidence in that look. Great job!

My husband and I just had Jesse from Luminous Electric come out to install and fan and complete a few small jobs. I cannot say enough positive things about him! Not only was he very friendly, courteous, and honest -- he wasn't trying to sell me on stuff I didn't need or incur additional (and unnecessary) charges just to make extra money like some companies do. He was a very skilled and knowledgeable technician, and we greatly appreciated his services and good nature. When we have additional electrical work done in the future, we'll definitely be calling them again!
