Lights Out
Company Overview
For the last 35 years, my family has been dedicated to lighting. With 21 years of experience in lighting, I bring a wealth of knowledge. I handle all aspects of lighting, including installations, repairs, restorations, recessed layouts, low voltage track, and troubleshooting. I can assist with small electrical needs as well. For any lighting or small electrical inquiries, give me a call.
My introduction to the lighting industry started at 12 in my family's business. About 14 years ago, I launched this venture, focusing on light installations and minor repairs. I loved the work, and calls kept coming in. Six years ago, I made a pivotal choice to bring on my two trusted team members, who continue to excel in their roles. We focus on lighting, remodels, and resolving electrical challenges.
I was raised in a lighting business, gaining skills from sweeping the lot to rewiring fixtures and helping clients create their ideal lighting. After that, I attended college in NYC and began a career in advertising, which lasted roughly two years until the dot-com bubble collapsed. I eventually returned to what I truly love. I have spent 14 years in this field, with thousands of satisfied clients who frequently reach out.

These guys are great. I had three electrical issues to be resolved. Brett fixed one of them gratis over the phone (without even making me feel dumb for not figuring it out myself, heh), and when Shad and Felix arrived they tag-teamed the other two which turned out to be more complicated.
In about an hour and a half they diagnosed and fixed a poorly-wired three-way switch, and also repurposed a ground wire to replace a bad neutral that had a problem somewhere in a long conduit between my garage and back stairs. They also took the time to answer my questions so I could see what they fixed, which I always appreciate.
I was having another contractor over on the same day, and Brett even moved my appt to accommodate that. I was a bit confused about what the rates would be (may have been Brett's explanation, or maybe I was distracted) but what I paid in the end seemed very reasonable for the work performed. And the lights on the back stairs work now so my wife thinks I'm a hero. Win win.

Really pleased with Brett, Shad and their crew. Total pros. What a relief. We had a bunch of old wiring, broken doorbells & buzzers that stretched a long distance, old lock issues & a recent break in. I called Brett, on recommendation of my brother-in-law. Brett is easy & efficient to work with. He determined who was best for our job, we exchanged a few photos since our job was a bit unusual, they showed up on time and had the job done perfectly in a very short period of time. I love it when things go this smoothly. Thanks Brett! We will be using Lights Outs services again & recommending you guys to all of our friends. Much appreciated.

These guys are doing so well since they're so excellent, they hardly need my review, but here it is:
The process of getting Brett here to look our situation over was easy.. he's responsive, and he actually shows up on time.
The guys came over, and had the track lights installed on time, and with so little fuss and troubles, that I felt they were working too hard .. silly me. They did it all for a great price, very very fair, and we're very happy with the work... which we've been using for two months now.
I called them again for another smaller job, and it was the same delightful and easy proposition as before. Thanks guys!

After asking for recommendations from friends and calling a few other electricians in the city that would either not call back or had really high quotes, I finally called LIghts Out after seeing their high rating on yelp. We needed some more outlets installed.
Here's what I liked about them:
1. Responsive and gave an estimate over the phone that was spot on.
2. They were able to schedule us quickly!
3. Work went smoothly!
4. Easy to work with.
They definitely guarantee their work. When a wire went loose that caused some of the new outlets to work, Brett came back personally ASAP to fix it and they made sure all was good. Brett also noticed we had no light in our living room and he suggested they add one and talked through the options with me. He thought there was wiring for one but it had just been patched over. He was right! We ended up adding it and it was so easy.
Overall, I thought everything went as easily as you could have hoped. I would highly recommend them and would definitely use them again if I ever need more work done.

Brett and his crew were great to work with. Efficient, communicative - I emailed him a photo of my fixture with a question and he was able to answer it within minutes.
The only (minor) issue was that the supplier (City Lights) took weeks to get the fixtures we ordered, so I suggest you plan ahead.

I have hired Brett twice, and am a bit bewildered by how he ever managed to get a few negative reviews here. Perhaps he has a mysterious ""Mr. Hyde"" alter ego evident only on other service calls, in which he snarls, berates customers, tears up property and so forth. I don't want to make light of the bad experiences of others, but my own experiences with Lights Out have been first rate.
Brett worked in advertising before starting Lights Out, and there is about him the air of a former white collar professional who simply prefers to be out and about in the city helping customers instead of chained to a desk. On the first call, he did more than I expected him to. On the second, he did what was asked, and charged me less. He is exceptionally friendly, and happy to provide one-homeowner-to-another advice to fellow San Franciscans.
Lights Out seems to specialize in ... well ... lighting, just as the web site says. I don't know what range of electric service his company provides, and wouldn't count on being able to use Lights Out until he says a job is within his purview. But if Brett says he can do the work, I'd certainly turn to him without reservation.

Make sure you have a notebook and pen handy, because Brett is a fountain of information on products and local expertise. He is well organized, works quickly, explains things thoroughly, and is very helpful. Over the past three year's he's installed and fixed a number of things around our house -- definitely knows his stuff.

Do not be fulled by his pleasant personality and his promises. Hire somebody else! This is why. I hired Brett 4 months ago to do track lights for my office in Downtown San Francisco. He gave me the most expansive estimate, but offered a professional advise on how ""it should be done right"". I am a business owner and consider myself an expert in my field, so I would pay extra for a professional advise and job done right, so I hired him. We are a medical/chiropractic clinic and the1st patient comes at 8am. The workers came early, 6am, but they did not finish the front office because instead of parking in a garage, they kept on running down the street to feed the meeter. I ended up with three tracks and there is one or two lights on each in the front office. it looks funny. I had to spend 20 minutes to set up the right light intensity and color for the front office and the hallway. The rest of the rooms are O.K and the light is pleasant. When he sent me the bill, he added a $50 charge for naming the building as an additionally insured on his insurance policy, and lying that the insurance co. charges him. I called his insurance who assured me that they do not charge for additionally insured. Really cheep way do make a buck, don't you think? Then he would not accept credit cards, the bill was over $2500. A reputable business would have a way to accept cc, pay pall, anthing else other than chek and cash, don't you think? It took him two weeks to set up a pay pall account under a friend's name, and this is how I paid. Very unconforable situation at the end. I would not hire him again and you should not either.

I emailed Brett at Lights Out with a query about my lamps. He was very helpful and recommended a quick solution to my problem, which didn't even include money changing hands or me coming into the store. Amazing customer service. I will trust Lights Out with any future lamp or light problems.

Brett came by this morning and installed a chandelier He put in two dimmers and fixed a closet light. He was smart, efficient, friendly, and super helpful. I wish this wasn't a rental and it was my own home to design some amazing lighting with him. He was great!! Very pleased!!! I only wished I owned the house to have him do more!!
