For Christmas this year, my husband and I gave each other a fancy Italian lighting fixture as our one big gift to each other. After it arrived, I needed a professional electrician to install it, so I called Peter Libby, who came highly recommended from a trusted contractor with whom I have worked many times before. Although the installation appeared straightforward at first, it quickly became apparent that this was going to be a much more complex job than Peter or I had initially anticipated.
The online retailer that sold me the fixture (a large, reputable US lighting retailer) noted on its website that a simple, standard dimmer switch was the only requirement to install the fixture properly. But once the fixture was installed, our standard dimmer only allowed us to turn the fixture on or off without offering any dimming functionality. The manufacturer's installation guide didn't shed any light (pun intended) on how to fix the situation, but instead offered a highly simplified series of steps. Something seemed to be missing.
Peter wasn't deterred by the conundrum, and set about researching the specialized European-standard junction box that had come with the fixture. He quickly determined that (1) the fixture was intended for commercial installations, rather than residential ones, and ordinarily required specialized wiring, (2) that a more sophisticated dimmer switch would be required to make this fixture work properly, and (3) that the junction box that came with the unit was faulty and required replacement. While he was diagnosing the situation and the fix, Peter kept me constantly informed about what he was discovering and what would be required to get the light functioning properly. He informed me of the incremental cost of the more sophisticated dimmer and a new junction box and requested my permission before purchasing them. Once they arrived, he successfully installed and tested them, and had our fancy fixture working quickly.
Throughout the process, I felt fortunate that Peter was on the job. This seemingly simple job turned out to require a sophisticated understanding of non-standard electrical situations, and Peter's experience, intuition, resourcefulness, and dedication got the job done where a less capable electrician would have abandoned the project in frustration. Peter is a true master tradesman who understands both the technical dynamics of electrical work and the gentle art of managing the customer's experience. He is at the top of his game professionally, and I can highly recommend him for any electrical project that you may have on your list.

I hired Peter in a rush when another (great) electrician had to post-pone my job. I had nothing but trouble and lies from this guy. Do not hire him. Breakers were blowing, he didn't run wires he was supposed to run, he refused to give me a receipt because he didn't want to be held liable for his work, he lied, lied, lied. I had 15 different contractors in my house for a various renovation projects and he was the absolute worst. He is high on himself because he supposedly has 37 years experience and won't listen to anything you say. Don't hire him, you'll be sorry. Last day he left he installed my light switch upside down - is that what 37 years of experience gets you?? And, two other workers I had in the house at the same time backed me up that this guy is the worst.

Took an extra month or so to complete the job, Work seemed to be dragged along for very long and he didnt really figure out the actual electrical issue until he had already done a good deal of work that was actually not needed to fix the problem. It is common practice for shady workers to add things to the scope of work so they get paid extra for doing easy work that wasnt needed, which is exactly what he did. The extra job that was done was set up in a way that was not to code and was recently all removed by professional electricians. DO NOT HIRE PETER LIBBY for any job.

I initially brought Peter in to do some under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen, but when I asked for his ideas for lighting other parts of the house, he had so many good ones that he ended up helping us in two other rooms too. His work was beautiful and has made such a positive difference in how we experience the house. No more dim, ignored corners, but architectural details highlighted with subtle-but-dramatic lighting. He's very easy to get along with, and became fast friends with our dog. We highly recommend!

Peter did a great job installing my bathroom exhaust fan and kitchen range hood. He and his apprentice Sebastian were very detail oriented, and when they noticed that the wiring in my attic wasn't quite right, they managed to fix it at no additional charge. Peter joked that Libby Electric might as well be known as ""Fastidious Electric,"" and indeed they did a good job cleaning up after themselves, which I really appreciated.

Peter Libby has helped us with lots of electrical issues, and he's always been great. We have an old craftsmen house built in 1908, and he seems to really know his way around these things.

We wanted to add lighting to our kitchen to help with visibility of the sink and cooking areas, and Peter helped us through the entire process. We love the final result! We even got another electrician to come take a look at it, and they were talking about ripping up the ceiling, how they didn't do drywall repairs, etc.

Peter had a different idea for how to do it that involved no ripping of the ceiling. It was super clean and elegant, and it all works great. He's definitely our go to electrician, and is always nice and friendly. Makes you feel like you're actually in a relationship with someone, rather than a ""hi bye"" contractor type person.

Mr. Libby has done a beautiful, well thought-out job of lighting our house. He listens to what we want, and then exceeds our expectations.

Our mid-century modern home had almost no lighting. Now it is well-lit in a way that is true to the style of the house as well as functional and attractive.
