I requested a quote for portable power generator installation, and the labor cost is $7,500 without the generator. I got a couple more quotes from other electricians and the range was between $1,500-2,000. I also requested another quote to replace 2 switches and the quote was $550. I ended up replacing the 2 switches myself since I have previous electrical experience with replacing outlets, switches and light fixtures.

I've spent the last year and a half dealing with a home remodel, and from the experience learned that the following traits in a contractor sound simple to find, but are not:

- Knowledgable about their trade (what they think should be done is actually the right thing)
- The actual work produced is high quality (they can actually do the thing they said they'd do)
- Communicative (Will respond to your messages honestly and in a timely manner)
- Operate as a professional w/r/t the business parts of the work (e.g. reasonable quote that lays out scope)

Jeff is all of these. Our GC's electrician skipped out on us for likely reasons I won't lay out here, and our HVAC company recommended him to finish hooking up some equipment to our panel. He came out, detailed the scope of what needed to be done, explained why his proposed work differed from the advice we'd received from the renovators (I confirmed with some later internet sleuthing that he was correct), was honest about timelines in terms of fitting us into his schedule, and came back within a few days with a quote.

When the day came he arrived at the time he said he would (!!!), took care of the work in a way that was minimally invasive, helped me troubleshoot a few other odds and ends around the house, and left the place in better shape than when he came.

We've got some other things coming up that will require the assistance of an electrician, and when the time comes I will be calling Jeff back.

Jeff Lewis is the real deal! He was recommended to me on a Sunday after struggling all afternoon to silence a chirping smoke detector. He came out at 6:30 pm on a Sunday, diagnosed the problem (one of my four hard-wired detectors was defective) and gave me options. I chose to replace all of the smoke detectors and he came on Tuesday with the new ones. AND he got me smoke detectors with 10-year back-up batteries. What a relief. If you are looking for someone who is reliable, knowledgeable, friendly and reasonably priced, you should call Jeff. I definitely will use him for future electrical work and have told friends about him already.
