Let me start with saying the work itself was good. I had Joel install a ChargePoint Home Flex with 60 amp wiring. It was everything else that was an issue.

I first reached out to Joel while our house was in escrow. I was looking for quotes so when we closed on the house we could have the charger installed. He gave me a quote and our interaction was good through Yelp. I felt comfortable moving forward with him once it was time to install. I contacted him 3 weeks later through text right before we were set to close. He didn't remember our conversation and I had to send him screen shots of our conversation on Yelp. A few days later he came out to take a look at the panel. We also discussed adding an additional 240 volt outlet to plug in a traveling charger for our second EV and also permits. This was the big problem. He said he could pull the permits for us from the city of Vista and would get everything ready. He took the information he needed for the permits and said it wasn't an issue. We preferred to have the permits before installation.

A week later I texted for an update on pulling the permits. He said he would be in the area that day and would stop by the city to get an update. I was fine with that and thanked him. Another week went by and I texted him for an update on the permits. He said he would send his guy by the city the next morning to get the permits. He then apologized and said he has been swamped and that's no excuse. Needing to have an EV charger installed we set a date and time for the installation.

Morning of the install 20 minutes past our agreed upon time and I hadn't heard anything. So I sent a text if we were still good. He calls me to apologize, had some stuff going on that I won't get into detail about, but could be there in a few hrs. I agreed to it but realized we didn't discuss the permits again. I sent him a text about the permits and he apologized saying he hasn't done anything about the permits and he has a lot going on. Basically he kept saying he was handling the permits over the previous 2.5 weeks but really hadn't done anything. He then said he can install, get the permit the next day, and set up an inspection. Once again I agreed thinking it would get done. 3 hrs go by and he wasn't at our place yet. He texted 4.5 hrs after our original installation time saying he would be there in 30 minutes, but by then I had to leave to pick up my son. He apologized again saying he would get the permits that day and we can do the installation 2 days later. I know at this point I should have found a new electrician, but I needed the EV charger installed having 2 EVs. I was fine and we set a time 2 days later.

He came that day and said he didn't have the permit. He said he would install the EV charger, pull the permit, get the inspection done, and then install an additional 240 volt outlet after the inspection. I was fine with this plan and let him install the EV charger. After he was done he said he wouldn't charge me extra for pulling the permit besides the actual price of the permit since I had waited so long. I was fine with that and happy our charger was finally installed.

12 days go by and I ask for an update on the permits. Silence. The following day I bluntly ask if he intends on pursuing the permits. He simply responds yes I am. I thanked him and just asked to stay updated and if he needs anything else to let me know. I sent a text today which was 10 days after our last text for an update. Silence once again.

All of this has led me to leave this detailed post. If the permit was pulled I simply wasn't going to leave a review, but the whole interaction has left a sorry taste in my mouth. I'd much rather not leave a review for a small business than a negative review, but I'm a veteran and honesty and integrity go a long way with me. I went with him because he said he would pull the permits, but in the end he didn't hold up on his promise. I understand we all have things going on in life, but do not make promises you cannot keep as a businessman. If he said he couldn't get the permit at any point I would have been more forgiving than what I am now and probably gone to another electrician. I didn't appreciate being strung along and it felt disrespectful. I'm hoping the details I put into this will allow anyone reading this to realize I'm not embellishing and really stuck to the facts. I took a chance with Joel as he didn't have many reviews when I first contacted him, but in the end I was not happy with how things turned out. I do not feel I was asking him for much with the permits and made sure to give him time to pull them before texting him again for updates. I did not spam him with texts or phone calls and was hoping he would make the right choice. In the end he did not. Other customer interactions may be better, but I wanted to post my interaction over the past 2.5 months with Joel to inform customers and let them make their own decision.

The most unprofessional vendor I have seen so far in my history of being a homeowner. Never ever even engage with him. Responded quickly to the request becoz I am assuming he didn't have any other work or customers (no wonder), agreed to the work, delayed it by 2 days and then finally just told can't do it with no logical reason explanation, was stand offish and rude. If you couldn't do it in the first place, inform it earlier. Clearly doesn't know what to do.
