My disastrous experience with Golden Gate Mechanical started on when they sent me an invoice (by email) out of the blue relating to a condo that I owned in Palo Alto. Upon further investigation, it turns out that the HOA had called them out months earlier regarding roof leaks. GGM had some bizarre theory that maybe the roof AC condenser for my unit was at fault, so they turned the condenser switch off on the roof, turned the thermostat to off in my unit (the HOA let them in), and removed the batteries from my thermostat. Of course my AC unit wasn't the problem and the leaks continued all over the building until they were properly fixed by roofers. Nevertheless, GGM sent me a $212 invoice, months later, for their ""service"" of wrongfully disabling my HVAC system, which I had to restore and reprogram later. Then things got worse.

I replied to the unexpected invoice (CC'ing the HOA) saying that the HOA called GGM out and the HOA is responsible for roof leaks in the building, so the HOA should pay this. Nobody responded and more than a month passed and I assumed it was resolved. But then I later tried to sell my condo and GGM sent a bogus payment demand to the escrow agent. If they still wanted payment from me for the shoddy work that I didn't want or ask for, it's strange that they would contact escrow rather than contacting me first. I instructed escrow to ignore the bogus payment demand, but I decided to pay the $212 myself anyway, since my (former) HOA was partially at fault for calling them out and not paying them.

I'm giving GGM a poor rating both for the incompetent ""fix"" which actually made things worse, and for sending a bogus payment demand to the escrow company rather than just telling me that they hadn't been paid. I'm glad that I won't ever have to deal with them again.

Do NOT use Golden Gate Mechanical. They are always looking for parts to repair or update - even when your system is ok. The receptionist Nicole is incompetent and rude. They are not accommodating of your schedule. The owner Tom is so incredibly lazy and looking to make every buck possible from you. Technicians don't come prepared and return for same issues that weren't fixed before. Would NOT recommend.

I've have been using GGM for about 7 years now in a commercial environment and I have been very pleased with the quality of their service. They show up on time and the technicians are very knowledgeable and more then willing to help.

I have used them from roof top down to the foundation and everything between. They have always done a great job and I have never had to remind them to do their work. You can just count on them to do what they say they will do.

I have referred them to many people and will continue to do that.

Keep up the good work guys and thanks for all your help.

Our long relationship comes down to trust and going the extra mile for us. And what matters is I can call John and he has me up and running within 24 hours if not quicker.

I've used GGM for over 15 years and recommend them highly, John always calls back immediately when I need work done and his crew is competent and always cleans after they've completed the project, they can do almost anything from electrical to air-conditioning to plumbing John always has good ideas to save money.

I have had the opportunity to work with Golden Gate Mechanical on a few occasions where we needed expert engineering consultation for clean room related upgrades and modifications. Tom and his team are in my opinion the best. Very professional, very knowledgeable, efficient and easy to work with. I highly recommend Golden Gate Mechanical for any facility upgrades, HVAC work, etc. There are none better than these guys.

Dont call these guys. They wasted my time. I needed ac repair and called them, gave all my information just to have a technician call back and tell me that they do not repair for new customers. What nonsense

I needed repair on my home air conditioner and I got a very high recommendation for Tom Burns at Golden Gate Mechanical from a friend. After having him come out and checking it out, he said the compressor needed to be replaced. It is a 12 year old Lennox system but he thought he could get a replacement. We discussed several options and he was very honest about our options. The quote seemed very reasonable so we went ahead and had him do the replacement. It all went in just fine. His technicians were very polite and efficient. The new unit was a smidge taller but quieter than the old one which was a nice bonus. It was so nice this past weekend as Los Gatos approached 100 deg that the house was nice and cool.

I didn't find Tom on Yelp as I would have normally done, but everyone has to start building a base sometime. The other reviews are all commercial whereas he did a home AC for me so I am happy to recommend Tom and Golden Gate Mechanical for residential AC systems as well.

I complained to my landlord for the longest time that the heat was not working properly in our office and was super noisey. Finally he told me he'd call an HVAC company to come over and fix it. A day later a worker from Golden Gate Mechanical showed up and said he would be doing work above to fix the heating system and if I had any questions or concerns to let him now. Totally professional and I appreciated the heads up he gave me. He was there a few hours and later came down to tell me the system was fixed. And it sure was as the office warmed right up. I let my landlord know about the great HVAC company he hired and he commented that there price was also extremely reasonable and they would be doing periodic maintanence on the building from now on. What a relief!

My office felt like a freezer box. I was so cold that I had to bring a throw blanket to work. It wasn't until my boss started about my baby blanket that I called an HVAC company. I found them on a new Bay Area home improvement website called GenieTown (www.genietown.com) and Golden Gate Mechanical came with good reviews from other customers. I'm about to add another good review of my own here and on GenieTown.

The guy they sent out was good. He came. He fixed the problem. He responded when I had questions - I had a lot of questions. And he called me ma'ame when he left.
