I'm sorry to say that I had the same experience with Alex on two different occasions in 2023: failure to provide estimate. Back around 2018 I used Five or Free for a couple of interior light installations, and they did a good job for a good price. So I called them again in March of 2023, when I had about 7 exterior lighting jobs to do, and Alex came out. It takes 1-1.5 hours to go through all these jobs. Then it took me four (4!) phone calls to the main office to finally get the written estimate, which was broken down in such a way that it was difficult/impossible to separate one job from another. Then other urgent things came up and I had to postpone the job until Fall 2023; by this time my requirements had changed a bit so they sent Alex out again. Another hour or so spent, and I asked for an estimate breakdown by job this time. He indicated it would be much more expensive than the previous estimate. And then, again, wait, wait, no estimate! This time I decided to skip the four phone calls and just find another company.

Eric and Rae came to our house to investigate some power outages we've been having. They did a bunch of diagnostics and finally got to the bottom of it. They provided me with what seemed like a reasonable quote and then found a place to buy the part they needed to replace. Actually initially it meant they were going to come back the next morning to replace it since they couldn't find the part nearby, but they ended up deciding to work longer, drive to a Home Depot that was quite a ways away, and then replace the part today to make sure we had power in the house and we weren't in any danger of a house fire. They were very professional, considerate and patient. They also provide a 7 year warranty for the part they replaced and the work they did. I highly recommend them and will be happy to use them in the future if we have any electric needs.

I requested a quote from a different electrical company for repair of a power outage in my master bedroom, bathroom & hallway. They did a cursory investigation in my attic (slab foundation), then announced that it would be too difficult to investigate each junction box so their recommendation was to completely rewire my attic and replace my power panelin the garage. Quote: $20K. And I had to pay $59 just for the quote.

So I called Five Or Free. Alex came to do the preliminary investigation. He was very friendly and professional. He determined that the attic would require a thorough investigation and scheduled a follow-up. This initial visit was free. Two specialists showed up a few days later, and after ~2 hours they found a loose wire in the attic. Problem solved for less than $1000.

I was so satisfied at their work that I asked them to come back to do some smaller electrical work for me.

I will definitely use these electricians in the future, and highly recommend them to anyone in Livermore.

It took a while to get permits in place because Berkeley and winter storms but these guys gave us comparable rates for panel upgrade and shed hookup. They also know what they're doing and once we had the project dates, everything was smooth. Our electrical panel upgrade and garden shed passed inspection. We're very happy with the work!
