called and left a voicemail for Daan to get a quote to do some work at our new place in Union city. He called back and unfortunately he said he does not work that far south and made a recommendation for another electrician. I really appreciate the fact that Daan called back even though he knows he won't be doing the work. That's really great customer service. I would definitely call Daan for any electrical work at our other house.

Daan and Inder of The Fighting Amish (I'm not making this stuff up) came out to fix a faulty electrical socket, and to install a new light fixture. These guys are serious about their work. But I guess if your messing with electricity, you'd better be. Wouldn't want to fry yourself. Job well done guys, you lived through that scary socket repair. Well, scary for me, not for you.

I was so impressed with these guys that I had them come back to update all the lighting in my kitchen cabinets, and under-cabinet lighting. I can now turn my lights on by a remote control switch. AWESOME!!! This little feature is cooler than cool.

Daan and Inder are very good at explaining everything they're going to do, and I'm very good at acting like I know what the hell they are talking about. Thank God they can be trusted. They are truly nice, honest guys, and come with great reviews from Yelp, Angie's list, and Berkeley Parent Network.

I highly recommend The Fighting Amish for all your Electrical needs.

These guys have earned, and continue to work for, their 5 stars. They have been doing increasingly demanding work for me and my trust in them has grown with each job. Today they finished a service upgrade to 200A with the periscope up on a 16'+ deck on a steep hillside.

They move with urgency and economy, yet they don't act hurried. When I have had questions or concerns, they take ownership of the problem and work through scenarios with you. Also, on at least two occasions on this job, they went the extra yard where another contractor might have dinged me for a changed order or otherwise charged extra.

There's only two of them, so if you need work done yesterday, be ready to wait. For me, the peace of mind alone in knowing it will be done right offsets that.

Fighting Amish Electric does a great job. Daan (""Don"") and Inder are consummate professionals. They upgraded my electrical service to 125 amps, relocated the service connection point and the meter, wired new circuits where needed, and fixed a variety of things; a fairly large job. When the city inspector thought he'd found a mistake in their work Daan returned my call while the inspector was still at my house, explaining to him why the work was in fact to code. And they're good guys as well. Couldn't ask for more. Chris

First, a fantastic name. Second Daan and Inder are an honest and great team. They will walk you through what you need to do for permits, getting things to code, what you can do yourself to offset cost. Good response to phone calls and emails. We had them upgrade our old fire-hazard Federal Pacific electrical panel. They got the work done, everything to code, and walked me through all the changes. They stand behind their work. I wouldn't recommend anyone else.

I bought a house I knew was a fixer, then went on yelp looking for help with the electrical. I was impressed with Fighing Amish's reviews and tickled by the name. I gave them a call and what ensued was impressive. I got a prompt call-back (and every time after that, too, sometimes at 8 p.m.!), an appointment, an assessment of the situation I could understand (the electrical contractor who had inspected the house just was not good at communicating!), and two guys who do all their own work, work long, hard and late if need be to get the project done, clean up the site meticulously at the end of each day, explain things clearly, are easy to work with and talk to, and just in general fine professionals. I cannot recommend them highly enough! Daan, Inder, I can't thank you enough for helping me through it all!

I discovered that I needed to upgrade the electrical panel in order to install a new furnace at our 1920's Rockridge bungalow. The house hadn't had heat for years and the electrical equipment was antique. Mike Hassler of Hassler Heating came out and impressed me as the correct contractor to do the furnace work ; I found Daan of Fighting Amish Electric after reading the Yelp reviews for electricians in the area, and was convinced that he was the man for the electrical job. Daan did a thorough inspection of the house and took the time to point out what needed to be done. The new panel would need to be moved to a different location and new dedicated lines would be run to each of the appliances. Daan itemized each part of the suggested plan with the cost of each option listed. Daan and Mike coordinated their efforts to bring the house up to speed. Everything passed inspection easily and the house has heat and safe, efficient power outlets.

The whole process went smoothly. Daan is obviously an intelligent, knowledgable and skilled workman. I would not hesitate to recommend Fighting Amish Electric.

Daan was a true professional who fit us into a tight schedule. He was courteous, efficient, knowledgable and reasonably priced. I recommend these guys without reservation.

Daan and the other guy in his crew did a bang up job. Initially I just wanted them to come in and sort out the bad wiring for a closet light that never worked (my DIY skills with electrical go so far unfortunately). We played phone tag back and forth until we nailed down a specific time that worked for both our schedules (the first message he left for me was on a weekday evening ~8PM whereas most other firms would have only responded to the message the next day).

The pair arrived about 30 minutes late, however given the horrible reception I get in the hills, his call ahead to let me know they would be running late never got through. Not a big deal as I was expecting them to be here for atleast an hour sorting it out, potentially cutting into drywall to investigate what the problem was. According to Daan it's rare for them to be late. Something about having a hectic morning. I didn't inquire into details though as it seemed legitimate. Their shoes make up for their tardiness and keep it at a 5*.

After taking their shoes off at the entryway (one of them went to and from their truck 3 or 4 times, taking shoes on and off without flinching), they nailed down what the problem was 2 minutes later: a bad closet light switch. No drywall cutting in order - woohoo! They replaced the switch and installed a new light fixture in short measure.

I had a few other small things for them to take a look at while they were here (replacing a magnetic ballast with an electric one in the kitchen and getting out a lightbulb that was stuck in the socket without breaking the bulb). Despite not being on the original agenda, they were happy to take care of them in short measure. They were finished in 45 minutes flat without having to turn a breaker off. Reasonable price for the service call to boot. I'd happily have them come back again should we have any other electrical work to be done

Last night, the electricity in half our house went out. I called the Fighting Amish Electric this morning at 4:45 am bc I remembered what Daan had told me back when I first called them in 2008 (due to a similar situation). I had made a comment to Daan that I was so impressed they came out so fast especially when they were so booked that day. Daan replied, ""Well if it's a situation where a home doesn't have basic electricity, we make that a PRIORITY. We don't like the idea of people living without electricity...food going bad bc frig is out etc."" So who else would I call but the Fighting Amish Electric.
So Daan returns my call first thing this morning @ 8am. He informs me they have a tight schedule and are unable to move their first appt but will juggle everything else so they can get to me by 10 am. Well he and Inder got here even earlier. And a good thing they did as they discovered a very dangerous situation where a power wire coming in over the sidewalk of our home was scorched to a degree in which it could fall and hurt any passerbyer. Considering there are several toddlers and many neighbors who daily use that sidewalk to stroll everyday, I'm glad I called them.
Apparently it was a PG&E issue and they told me exactly what to say so that I could relay the dire urgency of the matter. Daan and Inder refused to charge me for their time. They said since they didn't fix anything, they won't charge. Well, that's new! My auto service and basically every other service which I used charges me for at least assessing a situation. And considering the urgency of the matter, I would have gladly paid for their time and wonderful customer service which I've come to take for granted with them.
*Long story short: Last year the Fighting Amish Electric came out to give me a bid on some work I wanted done. I ended up going with another electrician, who also had a good yelp review, bc his bid was lower. Well, the other electrician did all that I asked but the quality and the appearance surrounding the work was messy and unattractive. I still have a gaping hole surrounding a light fixture in my kitchen ceiling that needs repair. I doubt Daan and Inder would have left it this way as their policy is to leave things better than they found it. Lesson learned: You get what you pay for, but in the case of the Fighting Amish Electric you get what you pay for and MORE!! Never will I used someone else!
