His career in construction started in 1991 when he joined the Navy Seabees. While deployed, he visited more than 15 countries and gained recognition as one of the most skilled electricians in his unit. After his honorable discharge in 1997, Mr. Jones enrolled in the electrical engineering program at Purdue University - Calumet. At Purdue, he earned two positions on the college basketball team as both point guard and shooting guard. In 1999, he had the chance to participate in a photonic engineering program, leading him to relocate to Dallas, Texas. In his senior year, he decided to return to his roots in the electrical trade.
