I called Ed Verhoeven Electrical to get a price quote for replacing and installing 2 outdoor motion detector lights, one on the north side of the house and one in the front garage. He came over the next day and said that the job would not take more than an hour and quoted me a price of $75 to perform the requested work as long as I provide the new lights. While he was still at my residence, I also asked for a price quote to possibly replace one of my indoor ceiling fans. He replied that it will probably take more than an hour to install and quoted me $125 and also mentioned that, in general, he charges $75 per hr. for his labor services. After discussing the price quotes with my wife, we decided to just have the 2 outdoor lights replaced and wait on replacing the indoor fan. So the next day I called Ed Verhoeven back and told him we would like to proceed with replacing just the 2 outdoor lights. He made an appointment to come over 2 days later and him and his partner installed the 2 outdoor motion detector lights and finished the job within 50 min. He then handed to me an invoice for $100 (instead of the $75 he quoted 2 days prior) with no explanation for the higher price. I felt like I had been taken by a ""bait and switch"" scheme. As we are always warned, I should have had Ed put the price quote in writing but didn't think it was so necessary for such a small job especially after he had quoted $75 twice during our initial meeting. It's too bad some people take the short term view and are willing to screw you for the moment and not look at a possible long term service relationship.
When I find a business or service that I am happy with I am a very loyal customer and will keep coming back. Also, this company's price quote was relatively reasonable and I was considering giving them a tip but changed my mind after the surprise of the higher amount on the invoice. Needless to say, this electrician has lost my trust and confidence and I will not be calling him again.
