They are local to Ladera Ranch and I reached out for a bid on ceiling fan wiring and installation. They gave me a rough estimate, but came out and provide a firm quote. Others simply provided a blanket quote that included a statement of work and materials that I didn't need.

Richard was super easy and accommodating on time/schedule. I hired Dickinson to wire and install two ceiling fans and install a new switch. They did an awesome job all around I would use them again and again. Don't hesitate to reach out

Richard came by on relatively short notice to take care of a few issues prior to listing our home for sale. Great job and reasonable rates.

This review is LONG OVERDUE!

Dickinson Electric is truly one of the best companies we have worked with! My husband and I hired him on two separate projects installing LED can lights. Both times he did an outstanding job! From the placement of the lights, installing the lights, wiring wall switches to clean up. Thank you Rich!

If you need an electrician, call Rich! I know that if and when we need any electrical work done, Rich is my first and only call!

Richard was very nice and professional. He was able to come the next day and fit me in his schedule. He put in a ceiling light in a bedroom with a switch.

I've used Dickinson Electric for two projects so far, and I've been very pleased with the quality of work, fair price, punctuality, and on top of all that, being a nice guy. If I wasn't pleased with the first project he did for us, which was extensive, I wouldn't have called him back to help us on a second project.

The review from ""Melissa"" is garbage, so don't consider it if you are using these reviews to make a decision whether to hire Richard Dickinson. At best, that review is either for another firm (Dickinson Electric doesn't have an office staff); at worst, the reviewer is a troll or extortionist. Either way, it is nonsense.

Richard and Danny are meticulous when it comes to fixture placement, measuring several times and using strings and templates to visualize the placement and symmetry. We found this very helpful.

After these two projects, I consider Richard Dickinson my go-to electrician. It's good to know you have a ""guy,"" and I recommend him to anyone in the OC area.

So I just needed a power line changed from 240v to 120v at the breaker. Richard was awesome helping me do this as I was replacing a Solar Inverter. Solar installers wanted $2k just to install it so I decided to do as much as I could myself. I called a electrician I worked with in the past and he said he doesn't know anything about Solar Inverters while Richard not only took the time to see what I needed done he also went above and beyond to wire in the Solar inverter and turn it on to verify that it was working correctly. I highly recommend him and will call on his help again next time I need an electrician.

[NOTE: There are a number of ""Dickinson"" electrical companies, it seems; I Googled them & many came up- so check the address at the upper right above & be sure you are posting about the one in Orange County, CA.]

I tend to avoid YELP, & read their reviews with a grain of salt; most people tend to post ONLY if they are over-the-top thrilled, or hugely angry about something.
HOWEVER! I have so much gratitude for Rich Dickinson & the job he did for me at my near take-down remodel, l that I HAD to let people know; And while I would never argue with another person's perception of their experience, I can't fathom that the Dickinson Electric Melissa has reviewed is the same person I have come to know & appreciate. That said:

Rich & his assistant Danny have been invaluable in my remodel of a never-upgraded 1963 Home. The new Title 24 laws make buying fixtures a nightmare, as specific bulbs & apertures, K level (color), lumens, & wattage, are hard to match in the new world of CFL vs. LED vs, Halogen & others Wild West of 2015! It was an exhausting learning curve! He gave me a near-university tutorial on all of the new Specs & Requirements, and as I have a design background & still do some of that, I sucked up every tidbit of information he tossed my way. He would change bulbs 2 or three times until he got matching color hue out of differing type bulbs! I often asked him to review the lesson 2-3 times, & he never got impatient with me for a second!

Rich is a wonderful, caring human being, & that made it a joy to have him on the site. He is a second generation electrician, & I can see he has great pride in what he does & in the family name. He was always the first to call back when I put out an SOS to the group, or when I had questions that my do-nothing contractor was never around to respond to; I call him my ""Knight on a White horse"" as he also turned me in the right direction when I had questions about permits, codes, & asbestos compliance. He is professorial about keeping up with regulation changes to the California Laws, & I often came around a corner as he spoke with the many other Sub-contractors to accommodate the added regulations in their cooperative installs; I never heard a negative word about him from the team.

What's more, he is as much a ""Detail-Savant"" as I am. Precise placement of fixtures matters to him; in fact, he strings plumb lines to get placement geometrically exact; I was always amused when tradesmen would see the strings along the ceiling level & remark, ""Oh! Rich is your electrician!; he's the BEST!"" They knew it was him & said he's the only one locally who is that committed to perfection!

He rewired where necessary, but did not replace a single thing that he explained was in adequate condition. Every time there was a change (you FIND things in old places that have never been opened up!) or when we had walls down to the studs & he had easy (thus less expensive) access, we would talk about whether or not to do preventative work. He made logical sense of the often illogical placement of switches in the home, so that things were controlled from places they should be. He worked tirelessly even on tiny details like the orientation of a chandelier so that the most beautiful ""Best Side"" was directed to the room entry. When a ""Should we/Shouldn't we"" option arose, he would coach me through so I knew if the expense was worth the result.

Since the contractor turned out to be useless & I had to take on all of the details of scheduling, he was my guide for who to call, places to shop, and reminders to take a deep breath when it overwhelmed me to the point of near-tears.
This was a high-cost project overall because no need was overlooked in this ""huge project in a small space,"" but if the general contractor has one redeeming quality, it was that he sent Rich to me! What's more, as I find other needs arising in my new home, there is no question that Rich is going to be my go-to-guy for all future electrical needs.

Again, because I NEVER trust YELP reviews or the motives of those who post bad reviews, I will add:
I DID NOT know Rich before this project began; he was sent to me by the G.C.
I OFFERED to write a review on his website and he was very glad to have me do it, but asked if I would mind doing it on YELP instead, which I gladly am doing.
I was given no promotion or kickback for the effort; in fact I brought it up and that was only at the end of the project. He never asked for a review, even though he was surely confidant of my complete confidence in him because I kept telling him he saved me on this project.

Rick Dickinson ROCKS!

When I look back, over a decade ago, when an electrician could not make it to the house and recommended Richard at Dickinson electric, it turned out to be truly a blessing! All these years, Richard's problem solving ability came to the rescue. An Engineer by training with decades of experience as an electric contractor, he managed to pull off the impossible time and time again! All for a very fair price! Always pleasant and with super fair billing! I even relied on his experience for interior design lighting suggestions and sure glad I did.
My recent request was in the midst of the intallation on a new roof when the roofer removed and in the process damaged the working mechanism of electric skylights. This was an emergency service that would have haulted the roofer's progress...Richard managed in spite of a full schedule to urgently swing by spend time and save the day...others would have recommended calling a skylight company instead!
When it comes to an electrician, I know I have the most trustworthy and competent one in the business...Highly recommended!

Dickinson Electric just stood me up for an appointment. I called and left a voice-mail. We'll see if they even call me back to reschedule.

Here are the reasons that I will not be using Dickinson Electric again, and would not recommend them. The office staff is rude and dismissive. They overcharged me for their work. The electrician was late, and unfriendly, and very unpleasant to me while he was working. He also wired things wrong, then did it correctly, and charged me for all of it. I suppose at least he fixed it the same day and it actually works. I would have protested the amount that he charged me, but he was kind of threatening. I found someone honest, capable, and friendly to finish the work, and it ended up costing 75% less than what Dickinson wanted to charge.
