As always, we appreciate the chance to serve you. Diablo Valley Handyman Service is led by James Yancey, a resident of the East Bay for a decade. Having spent almost 16 years creating upscale remodels and additions for others, he felt it was time to venture out on his own. During his leisure time, James enjoys family outings, hiking, and volunteering when he can. Being of service has brought him friendships, fulfillment, and success. James Yancey is a third-generation contractor. After a few years of searching for his specialty, he established himself in handyman services. “I spent my childhood maintaining family rental properties and now, at 36, I have 20 years of experience.” Working in construction provides me with daily variety and the chance to get things done right. Diablo Valley Handyman is fantastic. Incredibly professional. We had a long list of odds and ends that needed to be done and they took care of it all.
In particular, we needed someone to install a chandelier ceiling box. Diablo was the only outfit we spoke to who could handle the electrical, drywall and paint work together. And Francisco did an amazing job! The drywall patchwork is practically invisible.
I'm looking forward to working with them again.

I had scheduled an appointment for an estimate on Jan 10th. Devon showed up punctual and professional. I was pleased with the initial contact but everything went downhill from there. Devon told me that I would have my estimate by Jan 14th, on the 15th I called and was told that estimates are never completed in the short amount of time that I would have it by Jan 17th. On Jan 16th I received an estimate, however it was not mine at all. I sent Hope a quick email explaining this. She apologized and said they would send me mine. Jan 20th I still didn't have my estimate and my call was not returned. I sent another email telling them I didn't want it but was curious if they had actually completed it at all. No response. If they didn't want they job why did they waste my time? The 2 stars is for Devon who was very professional.

I recently moved to the area and began to run a facility with MANY repair and maintenance issues. Devon and the folks at Diablo scheduled some time and began working on a shortlist that I had compiled so I could see how well we all work together.
That list grew as I became confident in their work. There was a bit of a hiccup in how a couple of lights were installed initially but Alvaro outlined exactly what he saw that needed to be adjusted and Francisco arrived the next day and reworked the hiccups and began a whole new list of issues that I have been waiting to have fixed.
Repairs, maintenance, and fix-it issues with 30-40-year-old pieces and parts are not easy but Francisco made quick work of them. His attention to detail and his logic on when to repair and when to replace was extremely helpful. Especially since I am a die-hard use it until it implodes type of person. That is not always the best solution when using it means spending an hour or two repairing it every single week for months on end.
The overall price is fair and the speed of response and of work completed was excellent. I do recommend having an idea of what pieces and parts you need overall because trips to home depot can add up in driving time billable hours when not prepared in advance.
I have another long list for other repairs and updates and Diablo is who ill call for it.

Good luck getting a response. Called on 3rd Jan, left message, received call back on 6th Jan, called back within an hour and left a message to call back, no call back. Called on 8th Jan to try one last time since they have so many good reviews here, received call back the next day and scheduled to come do an estimate later that day. Estimate went as expected, provided a laundry list of things to do, from fixing a shower hinge to re-doing a bathroom. Said I would get an estimate on Monday. Business must be awesome to have to take 2 days to give an estimate. It's Tuesday, no contact or estimate. Guess they don't need business so you shouldn't give it to them.

We hired Diablo Valley Handyman to fix a door and a gate, and to install a small door in a wall of our garage (to enable access to electrical wires when needed). Devon did the estimate, and Joe and Trevor did the work. Excellent service from all. Prompt, professional, friendly, and reasonably priced. We will definitely call them again for other home needs.

Jake and Trevor were fantastic! Helpful, courteous, professional, and very capable. All repairs were done in a timely manner, and they went out of their way to make sure the job was complete . Highly recommended!

Very professional contractors with responsive communication and easy scheduling. Jake was very professional and knowledgeable with swapping out an electrical light to fan box. What I thought was going to be a quick and easy job turned out to be more complicated and involved due to the existing electrical and a defective part. However, Jake was very patient and efficiently got the job done. I highly recommend DVH.

Scheduling was easy, they were on time and I was happy with the work done by Jake.
I would definetly consider them for any future work!

I called out Diablo Valley Handyman to build out an interior wall in my home, to support a larger flat screen TV. Devon came out quickly, and was very professional as took the measurements necessary for the quote. Work was scheduled about a month out, but was rescheduled sooner when an opening came up. Francisco executed the actual installation - he was communicative, adept, and efficacious. Altogether, Francisco spent about 9 hours spread over two days tearing out shelving from an old nook, framing and installing a new wall, texturing it, installing custom shelving, and installing power outlets and HDMI cutouts. Francisco's work was spotless. I mounted my 100lb+ TV a few days later, and it's completely stable.

I scheduled an appointment to get an estimate for a number of jobs I need done. The person who showed up (Devon) was knowledgeable and friendly and seemed to really know what he was doing. He was so helpful and very nice to me; he took time out to come back the next day and finish installing something for me that I could not manage myself - at no charge.
I'm waiting for an estimate on the work I want done, so I can't say how that will turn out, but so far I'm very impressed and pleased with how Devon handled the walk-through and follow-up.
REVISED REVIEW: Thumbs down. I received an estimate that was not itemized as promised. Instead, it just listed several lines with the prefix ""painting"" and ""plumbing"" and similar vague descriptions. I emailed James on October 30 and asked for a clearer estimate and never received a reply. Also contacted the business manager, who had promised me the clearly itemized estimate so I could pick which jobs I wanted done immediately, and have not heard back from him either.
