Recommended Customer Reviews

I have used Decker for a couple of jobs now. I love Reid! Super fair, great quality work and very communicative. He recently installed an EV charger in my garage. He was efficient and his work was top notch. On top of that he was quick to file a permit for inspection so I can apply for a rebate with the city. I will definitely be recommending him and using him in the future!

We called Decker Electric to determine why an outlet was not working. Reid Holm responded promptly and came out on a Saturday morning to fix it (loose wiring). He also checked the main power boxes to make sure they were working properly. Reid was professional, knowledgeable and did the work efficiently for a fair price. Decker Electric is highly recommended.

Reid has been my electrician for almost 20 years. He has replaced outdated circuit boxes and put in outlets that were compatible with my house's mid-60s aluminum wiring. He has also done some additional projects like wiring security lights and putting outlets on my patio. Reid is super-friendly, always does a great job, and works hard to make sure the customer is happy!

$5000 to upgrade home service and replace my panel.
Exorbitant prices
slow, arrogant, unresponsive, misleading...
The problems started when I made a request a couple of weeks before our Austin energy appointment for upgrading the home's service and new panel installation. I requested installation of an outlet and manual transfer switch for my panel so that I could connect my portable generator directly to it if the power goes out again. This is when the days and days of excuses started...
#1 you can't do that, it would ""cost thousands of dollars more - over $10,000"" and require a new permit
#2 ""I'll install a plug directly on your furnace in the attic instead and if the power goes out, you can run an extension cord from the attic to the backyard and plug into the generator"" [!!!!!!!]
#3 The power is never going to go out like that again. (that was a favorite, along with ""solar panels and Tesla batteries will take another 20 years to be good enough to use"")
#4 (after texting him a picture of my friend's panel that was done under permit by a licensed electrician). ""Here is what I want, Reid"". He replied ""I will not put in some [illegal/not to code/other illogical nonsensical excuse]. ""but Reid, they show this EXACT SOLUTION on This Old House"" to which he replied ""They do a lot of things on that show that I don't agree with"".
#5 The day of the panel installation he provided a brochure for an OTT system for a very expensive automatic power switchover device for the panel, which was completely unnecessary and far more complicated than the simple solution I asked for]. ""here is a solution for you""
#6 [After completing the panel work but before the inspector signed off and AFTER I paid him 90% of what I owned him], he watches the video from This Old House that shows how to do EXACTLY what I asked for from the very beginning- ""a way to plug a portable generator directly to the panel when there is a power outage"", he said, ""oh yeah, I installed one of those for my mother 15 years ago"".
F.U., Reid.
Then the price increases... He advised me via text on the morning of the panel installation that prices of supplies had gone up and it would cost an additional 300-400 over estimate. At the end of the day, he presented me with a bill that was actually $800 over budget! I paid him the balance less $500 because there was no confirmation that the permit was closed. Turns out that the inspector said he 1. didn't know that new panels required surge protectors (even I could have told you that, Reid) 2. the panel wasn't labeled.
Interestingly, I had a long chat with the COA Inspector and he told me that not only was the generator plug I had requested completely to code, he thought it was a great idea! He even asked me to send him the video from This Old House.
Why did I stick with this loser for 4 months? Because he filed the permit in September and held me hostage until the January appointment when Austin Energy could cut off the power.
At the end of the day, the work was done and it passed inspection and my power has been working over the past few weeks. I found out that the final invoice was almost double what it should have been. Why did he become such a weirdo? I don't know but beware. Those who found him ""honest and fair"" is what I also thought in the beginning. Until I didn't. with cause. Bottom line - don't trust him or his estimates or that he will do what you ask for.

Reid is a genuinely nice guy, an experienced electrician, and as trustworthy as any service person I've ever run across. We've called him on a number of smaller job over the years, and he's always been responsive, solved the problem promptly, and given reasonable pricing. Wouldn't hesitate to go to him first with the big job either.

Decker came out to install lights and also evaluate whether I could add or change switches. Their work was great, very professional. I really appreciated their honest explanation about the work related to the items I was requesting and in the end trusted their judgement to get the best results for what I needed at the time. I really appreciate that they were so trustworthy and knowledgeable. I expect to need more electrical upgrades later, and when I do, I will call them!

Decker Electric offers superior, responsive customer service. Our company, Corporate Lodging Consultants, started using them a year ago and with each visit they have exceeded our expectations. One notable service was a next day install needed for a migration project. We could not have completed our work without it. Their electricians and data techs are knowledgeable and communicate their process every step of the way. I recommend Decker Electric to anyone who needs professional service done right the first time!

I tasked them with installing additional kitchen, and bathroom lighting in a top-floor condo unit. They misplaced the holes in the ceiling for reset lighting , which can still be seen (they never properly patched, or outsourced a drywall professional to repair their measurement mistake.)
Worse yet, they cost me hundreds of dollars as they ran all new electric through my HVAC return vent system, creating massive holes in the duct box to the attic, permanently leaking air into the attic space above. So basically, my closed HVAC system is now open to the attic and my electricity bills are 200+ per month in the summer months, as I'm trying to perpetually cool fresh hot attic air through the holes they put in my HVAC return system. It took me a long time to figure out the cause of the holes, it was the electrician. The only electrician I hired to install new lights in my bathroom and kitchen was Decker Electric.

Reid and his team have done great work at our house. They are on time, incredibly knowledgeable, and work until the job gets done. I highly recommend them!

I called Decker Electric at about 9PM Friday after that big storm the night before. Reid answered and set up an appt the very next day. His brother came out on time, gave me an estimate and got working. Thanks to them, I had power in my house within a few hours. They came out again Monday to finish the job. Reid and his brother were nothing but professional. I HIGHLY recommend them. I called about 4 electric companies and he was the only one that called back that night (the rest called back Monday).
Synopsis: Great guys, reliable, stuck to the quote, came out on father's day weekend. They found themselves a new customer!
