The essence of Day-Lite Maintenance, a family-operated firm, is rooted in electricity. In Pawpaw, Illinois, the Walworth family launched their electrical career with a generator plant.

In the 1930s, the family relocated to Santa Ana, California. The son, Richard Ray Walworth, affectionately called ""Dick,"" saw a chance to offer lighting services to an expanding commercial property market.

He established Day-Lite in 1961, and as his business grew, he parked service trucks in his parents' orange grove. While maintaining the grove, Zelma and Ray Edward Walworth would stumble upon his new truck.
