Company Overview

My expertise lies in residential services, such as bathroom renovations and maintenance tasks. For 20 years, I have worked as an electrician and have been a state-certified electrician since March 2009. I am proud of my craftsmanship, and meeting my customers' needs is my highest priority. I value honesty and hard work, and I consider my rates to be fair.

I started out in Electrical Engineering at Delgado Community College, looking for a position related to my education. As a result, I took on an electrical apprenticeship, which provided me with practical experience. I worked my way up and opted to get a State Electrical License to further my expertise. After many years with my State License, I decided to start my own company. Each day, I aim to improve as a businessman and as an individual. My customers' needs come first, and I make certain they are pleased when the work is done.

I work hard and have a strong passion for electrical tasks. I ensure I am informed about code revisions and various products available. I follow NEC guidelines for all my installations, ensuring I never take shortcuts. I gained insights from experienced electricians and created my own distinctive work style. I am meticulous, ensuring that not only does everything work properly, but it also looks great; my craftsmanship is evident.

Darryl installed a new electrical panel on my home after Hurricane Ida. At first the work looked ok, but it turned out to be a rush job with faulty wiring. Upon informing Darryl about it, he's refused to do anything to fix it. I'm now stuck with a $1000 repair resulting from his work and a serious safety concern as well!

Within 1 or 2 months after Darryl installed the new panel, I experienced a short in one of the circuits for my garage. I felt like the issue was related to his work because it was the first time I had seen the problem and the panel he installed was sparking badly. When I sent video to Darryl and asked him to look into it, he blamed the fact that I have aluminum wiring and he took no action on it. Since I'm not an electrician, I couldn't be sure it was his fault at the time, so I turned the circuit off and have been living with it that way ever since. This past Spring I called another electrician out for an unrelated issue. He discovered that the wiring in the panel was never insulated properly with Darryl's installation. The short was occurring because the circuit was directly touching the ground wire. He showed me a photo of the two wires connecting and the ground wire melted halfway through. Because the wiring is difficult to access, the panel needs to be taken back down off the wall so the wiring can be repaired and rewrapped properly. All together, that is a $1000 job.

I brought this all to Darryl's attention and while he promised a couple of times to come look at my panel, he never did. I've been calling and texting Darryl for 3 months waiting and hoping for him to take some kind of action, but the only thing he has done is avoid me. I did manage to get Darryl on the phone a few weeks ago, and all he had was excuses...

""The wiring probably got damaged when the panel got pulled off of the wall.""
- To which I responded: ""Yes, but I expect a professional electrician installing a new panel on my home to make sure the damaged wiring is taken care of.""

""It's been a year and half. How come you're only letting me know now?""
- To which I responded: ""I sent you a video, and you didn't do anything about it. You just blamed the aluminum wiring.""

""Well, is there an easier way to access the wiring from the kitchen or something? I mean, pulling the panel off of the wall. That's a lot of work!""
- I couldn't respond to that one. I just assumed we could all hopefully agree that's why it's important to do the job right the first time and not land your customer with costly mistakes.

For those who are interested, I'm attaching photos showing the panel sparking, the faulty wiring, the melted ground-wire, and (just some!) of the utter lack of response from Darryl in the matter.

He arrived on time and did the job but when he left some of my items was missing. Mostly tools and other household items.

Sykes provided a very extensive experienced resume and professional website so we decided to choose him above the rest. When he got to our property he started work immediately and was very friendly with a smile then he asked to use the restroom. I pointed him in the direction of the bathroom and noticed he was taking a bit longer than usual. When he finally came back out he told me he had a family emergency and had to rush home in the middle of work. He hopped into his car and sped away and as I was walking inside I noticed my purse was not in the same spot I left it. Items was tossed around and my wallet was opened and cash, checks and credit cards are now missing. He won't answer my phone calls and have blocked me. We have cameras and after viewing them we have turned them over to the police, we filed a police report and will be pressing charges. DO NOT HIRE HIM YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Still looking for this guy. SMH We had an agreement for him to give us our money back since he did not do the job and of course he went ghost be careful giving him your money Because he won't tell you that he does not know how to do the job. Looks like legal help it is! Clearly he had all his friends write his reviews because it does not reflect the work!

Darryl is a true professional! He was timely, polite, and very knowledgeable! He gave me a very reasonable quote and stuck to the budget! He was able to do the work within a short time after he gave us the quote. He installed a 220v breaker box and installed the cable to the appliance. He did the work in a couple of hours. He was neat and thorough. I would recommend him for jobs big or small. I know I will use him the next time I need work done. Thank you Darryl!

He was so awesome! He was able to come the same day and kept me posted through the day on his eta. He checked everything out and didn't overestimate the problem. He was able to fix the issue and go on his merry way. I very much appreciate the prompt response and resolution. I really hope I don't need an electrician any time soon but if I do, I would call him again.

I do not recommend!
I never give bad reviews but this one, I could not help but to inform.
I was looking to hire someone who could hang two televisions plus surround sound, relatively quickly and potentially rewire a light fixture. Daryl gave me a quote, which I later learned was double the price of other installers, none the less, I agreed to his price and asked how soon could he start. He was a week out and we agreed on a date. That date came and Daryl informed me he only had time to do one TV, which I had to help him lift onto the TV mount. I paid him nearly 3/4th's of the the total cost of the TV/surround sound installation, with the expectation of the rest being completed on the next appointment. He even left without helping me figure out how to get a picture. His next available appointment wasnt until a week later. In the interim I found another to hang the 2nd TV at half the cost. On Daryl's 2nd appointment, he arrived an hour late and without the proper cords needed for the surround sound. He left and came back and again, ran out of time to complete the job. He asked for more money, which I gave him with the assurance he would come back the following weekend to complete his work. Daryl cancelled on that appointment
and never completed his work and has since stopped responding to my text messages and has blocked my number from contacting him. I would never recommend him to anyone. See attached messaging

I am thoroughly satisfied and very impressed with the work Darryl has done in my home. He installed six new electrical outlets, mounted six TVs and cable boxes behind the tv. Along with wall phishing cable wires and put up two new light fixtures in my kitchen and dining room. And he did so all by himself too! I highly recommend him for your electrical needs. You will not be disappointed! See pictures below for references.

Darryl Sykes has completed 2 jobs at my house within the past two weeks. He kept in contact with me, submitted a quote, and completed both jobs quickly and professionally. I would recommend D. Sykes for any electrical needs.
