Company Overview

This venture is now a one-man, part-time enterprise. I am an unlicensed electrician dedicated to following Code and getting the job done right the first time. While I haven't secured my license due to financial reasons, I work well with local government electrical inspectors. I can assist you in acquiring any necessary permits.

I accept smaller jobs that larger companies often overlook. Numerous small jobs don’t even need permits. I am capable of taking on larger jobs, like replacing old knob-and-tube wiring with modern wiring, upgrading standard service from 100 amps to 200 amps, or installing new circuits and subpanels. Cost-Effective Solutions was established in 1983 as an IT consulting firm, focusing on IBM mainframe operating systems. The business flourished until the recession struck in late 2001. Contracts dried up after 19 years of abundant work. Following six months without work, I resolved to apply my other skills acquired over three decades as a homeowner.

I began my journey as a handyman but soon discovered my enthusiasm for electrical work, where I thrive. I learned about electrical codes mainly from books I bought and insights from experienced construction professionals, including my best friend, a general contractor, and a local building inspector.

Originally from San Francisco, I was educated in San Mateo. I attended CSM, CCSF, and Oregon State University, majoring in Physics and Math, before moving to South San Francisco, then to the City, Belmont in 1986, and finally Petaluma in 2018.

Before joining IBM in 1969, I owned a stereo component store and a small recording studio in San Francisco. During my younger days, I managed rock bands, created nightclub sound systems, and engaged in live sound engineering while also working full-time and pursuing other nighttime endeavors.

I departed from the music industry in 1985 to dedicate my efforts to Cost-Effective Solutions and IT consulting. In late 1986, I relocated my home and business to Belmont. I am happily married with three adult children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
