I love my new/second ev but the manufacturer is not up to speed with AC charging and it was impossible to get in touch with anyone who could help. When the manufacturer's charger kept faulting the Car Charger Guy did major research, discussed troubleshooting options, then made a recommendation for an entirely new charger, installed the new/non manufacturer charger and didn't even charge me for a second install! Amazing! I am now charging at home like a dream. Thank you, Car Charger Guy!

I am sure that most people when first getting involved with EV charging are a tad mystified. Level 1, 2, 3??? Kilowatts, Amps, Volts. AC - DC.
When we bought our BMW i4 a couple of weeks back, we ""assumed"" that our dryer outlet at 240 volts, was able to use the adaptor that BMW supply with their charger for express charging. (you also get a 120v adaptor that charges to 100% in about 2 days). Not so. We discovered that the dryer outlet is Nema (yes, another mystery) 10/30 whereas the outlet you need for the adapter is Nema 14/50. i.e. 50amps instead of 30amps.
I called Rick the Car Charger Guy who took his time explaining the differences and estimating that it would cost about $1,800 to run a 50amp cable from the breaker box (in my upstairs bedroom) to the garage.
He suggested I get an adaptor for about $30 from Amazon which would work perfectly. I did, and it does. Charges from 50% to 100% in about six hours.
Nevertheless, we like ""tidy"" and cables around the washing machine and loose on the floor don't jive with us.
We called Jack back, and he and his able assistant came and moved the outlet to opposite the charging point on the car, attached the BMW charger (the one that comes with the car - no need to buy the $600 wall box) and did a first class job. See pics.
