Based on great reviews here on Yelp I contacted C. Bates Electric for some work I needed; installing a ceiling fan in a bedroom that didn't already have a ceiling light, and also upgrading my doorbell transformer to support a doorbell cam I have. Carlos responded later that day and we set up a time for him to take a look and give me an estimate. Let me say that Carlos is a very personable and professional guy, so moving from estimating to scheduling and getting the work done went very smoothly. He's very responsive. I called today at 0830 and he was at my door at 1245. He let me know that he was able to get to my job today. He was honest about the job and tried to recommend a handyman for my doorbell. I think he did this to try to save me money. This made me trust him more. I've learned it's better to go with someone licensed. Not only did he fix my smart doorbell, he also fixed the mounting plate of the doorbell and mechanical bell inside. I was very pleased with the work. I'll be using him for future projects.

One of the worst case scenarios for a homeowner - power went out throughout the house, and it was limited to only my house, not affecting any other structure in the neighborhood. I replaced the 20 amp circuit breaker fuse on my panel which I thought I had identified as faulty. It didn't do the trick, and we remained without power in various parts of the kitchen and house.

Time to call a professional. I tried contacting several electricians in the area. The responses I got had limited availability, seemed sketchy without a verified license, or had somewhat heavy-handed policies about charging for diagnostics/troubleshooting even if they couldn't fix the problem.

Carlos was by far the most responsive, professional, and trustworthy. He was not immediately available (I think he was on vacation), but he still responded to me very promptly to arrange a time and give me a fair idea of what to expect.

Fast forward a couple days later, Carlos timely showed up with his brother, both very pleasant, nice guys. Long story short, they correctly identified that my power was out due to the 220V leg likely being damaged which ran from the transformer ACROSS the street, underneath the road, and to my home. This can apparently happen to the 50+ year old underground connections when there is a lot of rain. PG&E sent like a 15-man crew out the next day to fix the problem. (And had to come out again a few weeks later).

At any rate, Carlos really came through for me during a stressful time, and his brother even helped me fix some light switches that stopped working long ago. Hope this review is helpful to you Yelpers out there. And thank you, Carlos!!!

Highly recommended!!! C. Bates Electric fixed and upgraded the electrical wiring in my house. They were fast, efficient, friendly, thorough, and knowledgeable. They didn't leave a mess either, they left everything neat and clean - as if they were never there! They also guarantee their work and price their work fairly...which is important to me as a single mom & owner of an old home.

I reached out to several electricians to see who could show up for a same-day inspection and repair. Carlos was extremely easy to schedule and communicate with, he showed up at the early end of his given scheduling window, and he and his partner quickly inspected and found the problem.
