Brookline Electric Inc. was established in approximately 1955 by John Brookman. In 1970, I applied for a position at the IBEW local 6 union hall and was placed at Brookline Electric Inc. Upon finding out I enjoyed working with classic knob & tube wiring, John enthusiastically said, ""SUPER!"" and I began my journey.
The foreman was John's brother. They formed a strong partnership. Nothing escaped their attention, whether good or bad. We had a major task of rewiring a sizable building following a fire. I was distracted by the Watergate hearings playing on the office TV, which seems like a long time ago.
John was diagnosed with cancer in the early 1990s and put the business into a trust. His son, Rick, managed the business before selling it to David Belisle's father. One of the best electricians for Brookline Electric was David. John and his family operated the business for a number of years.
In September 1994, I bought Brookline Electric Co. with the aim of expanding my business. It didn’t double as planned, but I gained more business. Since then, I have continued as the owner.

John was about the least professional contractor I've had the displeasure of working with. We had a problem with our Nest that required installation of a new cable between the thermostat and the furnace. John required several attempts to complete the job, each time failing to do checks. We eventually threw him out with the job incomplete after he did massive and expensive damage to our walls and ceilings. His masterpiece was dabbing paint on with a paper towel, leaving orange blots on the ceiling.
John proved himself to be inept, doddering, imposing, and generally a nightmare.

In reply to john, I'll agree that he was in over his head, unable to complete the job, and unwilling to admit it when he -- apparently -- recognized it. It's a fabrication that he gave us anything for free (we paid him more than was quoted) and that he offered to pay for painting.
John, if you're earnest in your offer feel free to drop a check in the mail.

Today I had John install a Nest Thermostat. John is, I should add, some of the most nice, friendly, outgoing and sweet people I've had the pleasure to have in my home, and I do not know who Eileen L is other than someone who received some sort of other John, an alternate-reality John that I do not believe exists. Also, if an electrician says he doesn't do something, why would you push him to do it? Anyway, your story sounds weird and totally different to mine. For example, he said ""I made a mess, lemme clear that up"" when I looked - it was a tiny pile of dust from where he'd pulled wire through.
John arrived a minute past 11am, so that's prompt. He texted me to let me know he was on his way, made a funny joke about the placement of the house, and didn't mind that I was on a business call. All he asked was to be directed to where he was meant to go. He found that the old thermostat was wired weirdly, and unlike other electricians found a way to make it work properly. He added new wiring and specifically worked out how to get it working. I've seen three Nest installs before this that were on non-standard thermostats and John sorted it. He started working at 11:10, and finished around 12. He said that it been simple, he had done it in less time.
He charged $235. I don't know what is reasonable, but I was expecting $350. His work was clean, efficient, and he waited very patiently as I tested both that the termostat worked, was set to Heat, that it connected to Wifi, my Nest account, AND that it turned on and off correctly. The heat in my place is slow. He also tested my smoke alarm just in case.
John was arguably one of the most pleasant and caring technicians I've had in my life. It's one thing to say ""oh he was nice,"" but he genuinely had a beautiful disposition that I believed contractors didn't have anymore.

Our Thermostat needed some extra wiring so we searched for someone who can help.
So I call up John from Brookline Electric, tell him what I need to do, first thing he asks is ""Do you like doing things on your own?"" and I'm like ""you bet"", then he asks ""Do you have Facetime?"".
Five minutes later in in the attic with John on Facetime going through the wiring on the furnace, 10 minutes later I'm done and everything is working great.
I got to learn about furnaces, paid less because he didn't have to come over and the thing was working 15 minutes after I started looking for a solution.
Great guy, highly recommend for any DIYer across the US who needs real-time help with electrical stuff and he does house visits as well.
The guy uses Facetime, prefers text and used Square to charge me - I love modern.

Mr. Peters came right in and went right to work. He educated me about a few things in which I appreciate. He has a good sense of humor too. I would recommend Brookline Electric to anyone who want a prompt and good job.

John was great. I called and texted him. He arrived at our house on short notice. He not only solved our problem, he gave us a tutorial on the circuit breakers and then he noticed our smoke alarm needed updating and asked if he could replace it. Saved us a trip to Home Depot. Thanks John for coming to the rescue. Will call on you again!

John was prompt, thorough, found and fixed a short in our 21-unit building's multiple meter panel, and charged a very reasonable amount.
The short resulted in power loss to portions of our building, on Christmas Day. I contacted John that day, and in spite of being a Holiday, he responded immediately to fix our problem.

I called John in a panic and he said he could come out this afternoon and help me out. He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and I recommend him highly.

John was excellent. I contacted him after a TaskRabbit botched a simple electrical job, which knocked out power to my entire kitchen. John answered my call and told me he could come over within a few hours. He kept me updated on his status via text message (which I greatly appreciated) and arrived right on time.
John was very knowledgeable and professional. He quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed the wiring in the kitchen. He also checked our smoke detectors and provided some advice for fixing our NEST thermostat.
Next time I'll skip TaskRabbit and shoot John a text directly.

John got a tad cranky at one point -- he barked at me for mistakenly assuming that he hadn't fixed the light switch -- but I think it's just because he's a perfectionist. He came out for a simple check of a wet light socket but also installed a smoke detector and fixed a long-broken power outlet. Highly recommended.

In my adventures in home electrical repair I managed to blow out some fuses. They were kind enough to walk me through my damage via FaceTime & get me up and running again for a very fair fee.
