Brea Electric was founded in 1919 by F.E. Hurtz and J.A. Leuzinger. In 1932, Frank Holly took full ownership of the business after initially acquiring it with two partners.
Brea Electric relocated to its present site on Imperial Highway in the early 1950s.
Don, the son of Frank, has memories of aiding his father in wiring homes and businesses during the booming construction era of the 50s and 60s.
At just 14, Richard, Don's son, began accompanying his father on service calls. “Before I knew it, I was overseeing my own work and understanding blueprints,” Richard said, who became the owner at 29 after buying the business from his father in 1996.
With Richard at the helm, Brea Electric has diversified its services to encompass wiring for home computers, home theaters, sound systems, and energy-efficient lighting.
It is widely believed that Brea Electric holds the title of the oldest family-owned business in Brea. Richard Holly represents the third generation of ownership at Brea Electric Company, which boasts a rich history of over 80 years. Frank, Richard's grandfather, entered the company as a partner in the late 1920s and took full ownership in 1932.
In the late 1970s, the business was taken over by Richard's father, Don Holly. Don was present during the early electronic era, installing a variety of color TVs in the late 50s and early 60s. He recalled, “The children would be sitting there, hardly able to wait for the antenna to be connected so they could enjoy cartoons.”
Richard became the owner in 1996 and has achieved unprecedented success in the company's extensive history. Richard noted, “I received calls from community members saying my grandfather wired their homes; I realized how significant it was to be a third-generation owner.”
Currently, Richard's sons, Camden and Quintin, are being trained by their father to carry on Brea Electric as the fourth generation.

Allen Z.We recently had another great experience with Brea Electric! About a year ago, they installed a chandelier for me and everything went fine. Tried them again for some more work and they delivered above and beyond.
They arrived on time and ready to go. They installed a new indoor junction box and a new outdoor junction box. They replaced three interior ceiling lights and three exterior sconces. They installed two new outdoor flood lamps and cleaned up some unsightly conduit work from a previous owner.
Everything was done clean! All the cuts were precise and all the conduit work was exact. Our crew was lead by Adam, and he managed Justin and Jonathan. All three of them were great - clean, detailed, and friendly. Jonathan even filled our dogs' water bowl outside when he noticed it was empty! The quality of work is superb and everything was done exactly how we wanted.
The pricing was competitive, scheduling was easy, and dealing with the owner (Richard) was great as you feel like you're being taken care of. Brea Electric comes highly recommended on local community message boards and it's obvious as to why. They're absolutely worth a phone call for any electrical work, and should definitely be on your list as someone to call when it's time to have some work done!
Richard is awesome! Literally saved me over $1,000 I had a another electrician tell me I needed to upgrade the panel and that was going to cost about $1500. I called Brea Electric and spoke to Richard who after asking me just a few simple questions informed me that I probably didn't need a new panel that what I had was sufficient and he was right! Thank you Richard for your honesty, I will be using your company anytime I need electrical work done and I have already passed along your info to friends.

Andreas came and did a fantastic job. Troubleshoot 3 broken outlets and fixed them. Moved another outlet and hung lights. He was a rockstar. I'd use them again.
I called to have an EV charger installed for my new electric vehicle and they were just awesome to work with. I took a few pictures to show them my electrical box and they helped me answer all of my questions over the phone. Immediately I scheduled the appointment and they showed up on time and were super courteous. The night before, my wife asked if we could put the charger on the other wall in the garage (farthest from the electrical box) and while this was not in the original quote, they were accommodating and made it happen. What really impressed me was they went thru and labeled my electrical panel with a label maker. Great service! Great experience! I will absolutely use them again!
Amber S.Adam did a great job installing a new modern Sputnik chandelier in my office. Very professional. Clean. Precision measurement between the other furniture and light cans already in the room.
I contacted Brea Electric because I needed to install three ceiling fans in my home, Richard was quick to respond and scheduled service within a few days.
Richard sent Daniel and he did a great job. Daniel was detail oriented during the installation process, meticulous with the clean up and the ceiling fans look great! I'm extremely pleased with the level of service I received from Richard and Daniel and would recommend Brea Electric to everyone!
Jeff S.Had a really good experience from start to finish. Had to request a couple of small changes and Richard was so helpful and quick to respond. Would recommend Brea Electric for sure.
Ana Z.I just called these people. A woman answered and barked a curt ""Brea Electric"" at me in a pretty unfriendly voice I might add. No ""good morning"""", no ""thank you for calling"", no siree. Who's got time for pleasantries, right? So I said ""I need an electrician"". SHE HUNG UP ON ME! I called back immediately ...and got the answering machine. It is 11:30 a.m., ...well within normal business hours. Who's got time for actually WORKING, right? Then people wonder why small American businesses are dropping left & right like flies.
Don't bother calling Brea Electric: they apparently DON'T like or need to work for a living!
***UPDATE: I just received THIS private message from the owner of this company: Apparently his policy is to track down negative review posters and pay them a personal visit to their homes:
""Hello Analia,
I'm so sorry to learn that you had such a bad experience with Brea Electric. I stopped by your home this morning and left you a note along with my business card. In case you haven't seen my note, I'd very much like to speak with you about this matter. Please give me a call on my cell phone at (714) 815-3XXX so I can attempt to make amends with you.
Respectfully,
Richard Holly, Owner""

***UPDATE: Response to Mr. Holly's comment posted below:
""How many business owners would actually make the extra effort to go to an unsatisfied customer's home with the intention of offering a free service call and a forthright apology?""
I never gave you my address nor is it registered with Yelp nor was the phone number I used to call you registered to my name (it was my husband's) thus I find it very spooky & frightening that you would actually come to my home. How many business owners would actually make the extra effort to hunt down and then personally visit a negative reviewers home when a simple callback would have sufficed?
IN CASE YOU EVER DECIDE TO VISIT MY HOME AGAIN, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU FIRST TAKE THE TIME TO CAREFULLY REVIEW CA PENAL CODE § 646.9.
I definitely recommend Brea Electric Company for all your electrical work. Richard Holly sent Dan Cortes out to assess my tripped circuit breaker issue. Dan trouble-shot the situation and offered options on how to proceed. The 20 amp circuit breaker was overloading at 23 amps and tripping the GFI in the kitchen. Dan recommended adding one dedicated circuit for the microwave and another dedicated circuit for the range hood fan and lights. Dan worked several hours under the house and up in the attic. He was courteous, professional and neat and when he finished testing all of the work I was totally confident that the job was done right and Brea Electric deserves five stars.

Laura S.I own a small business in Yorba Linda and called the Brea Electric team to change out some bulbs in my front sign and to also take a look at some flickering lights above my counter. They changed out the bulbs in front and a ballast on one of the lights inside. The other one had some cosmetic issues and the team advised me that it would be more cost efficient to replace the whole fixture. The price was on par with a previous quote I had received from another company and they did not charge me a secondary service charge. During the installation, I mentioned to the guy that was working (I can't remember his name!) that some of the panels in the back of the shop had been disturbed by Spectrum when they were doing an installation. I laughed as told him that I hadn't been able to get the panels back in place by myself and him how thankful I was that he was working on the panels that my customers would see. He finished the job and began cleaning up. Before I knew it, he had taken his ladder to the back of the shop and put the panels disturbed by Spectrum back into place for me. That was above and beyond the service I was asking (and paying) for by Brea Electric! I sincerely appreciated this extra effort and the work that was done by all 3 people that came out to my shop. I wish I could remember everyone's names, but it was a wonderful experience all the way around. I'll definitely be using Brea Electric for my business and home electrical needs in the future!
