The work itself was fine but almost a year later and having other electricians work on the house, come to find out one light switch was just capped off and left inoperable? they also never went near another outlet on the front porch which they were supposed to fix. The amount of time to complete the job was not ok. Originally told it would take no more than 4 days to complete the work. Shame on us for accepting an hourly rate instead of insisting on an all-in quote. It dragged out to 6 days and were given an excuse that we added items to the project... all we added was three spot lights in the hallway which took all of a few hours. The terms were hourly plus materials but when I asked for itemizations on the materials, this was refused. If they can come up with a number for materials used, they should be able to share an itemized breakdown, but they refused. I bought all materials myself (electrical outlets, spot lights, light switches) except for the actual wiring... but apparently wiring costs over $600? They finally agreed to take approx $500 off the total, but the experience dealing with them at the end left a bad taste. It also came out that they billed travel time of $185 each day (so over $1000 total for the project) just to get to the job site which was not disclosed before starting the job. INSIST on an all-in quote for the job instead of hourly because they will likely milk it.

Aaron spent a half hour on the phone with me to help me figure out an electrical issue with my dishwasher. There was no charge. He cares about helping people and is very knowledgeable about the history of electrical wiring on the island and how best to tackle perplexing problems. Thanks, Aaron - you're the best!

They cannot communicate!!! They hardly ever answer the phone or return email. Takes 3 weeks to get them to come out and then they try to say they could not find the fixtures to install when really they put all the outside inside in the wrong places. The owner Gilbert complains about everything but he never goes out and wont return call or email - we have been trying for weeks to get them to finish their electrical. They claim they need everything totally done including inside, outside paint before they can hookup electrical. this is not true. Not a professional company.

As a farmer I am constantly faced with things breaking down, usually when I need them the most. I have used Big Island Electric a dozen times or more and am always amazed at the prompt and efficient service. This week I had some just picked coffee beans and the pulper failed to turn on. Within less than 3 hours they sent two electricians to fix it and I was on my way to pulping the beans that could not have waited another day. There is nothing these guys cannot fix and finding service like that in Hawaii is just about a miracle.

I needed a new electric panel to replace my 50 year old panel. I called and made an appointment. Their electrician came on the day and time we agreed to. The service was excellent. When the bill came, the price was less than their quote. It is so rare that contractors and service people on Hawaii Island actually so what the promise. I highly recommend Big Island Electric.

Excellent work and response time and the office staff were very nice to work with (!), but the sticker shock was a bit crazy given the scope of the work (easy/fast) which was my fault as I didn't get a quote first. Lesson learned.
