I recently purchased a portable generator and a transfer switch for the purpose of powering 10 of the most critical circuits in my home in the event of a power outage. In searching for an electrician who knew how to install and wire a generator transfer switch I made a post on Yelp and received a few responses, including one from David Alcala. Although I could not find any reviews on work performed be Alcala Electrical I sent David a request for a consultation and a proposal to perform the installation. David made a site visit with his dad and we followed up by kicking around a few ways to best facilitate the installation via email, David did the contact and paper work for the City required permit, and this morning David's dad Richard and brother Dominic did the installation. I could not be happier with their work. They were not only very skilled electricians but they also knew the ins and outs of how to do the specialized transfer switch wiring which I had thoroughly researched just to monitor their work. Although I have not had the City inspection for permit requirements yet, I did some testing of using the transfer switch for powering a few of the selected circuits with the generator instead of the SMUD grid to power the circuits and all worked perfectly. And, these folks are honest. I was quoted a very fair price which was refreshing give I have been gouged several times by electricians and other trades contractors. I highly recommend Alcala's Electrical.
