Company Overview

Residential and commercial new construction, design, and emergency service work.
In the late '70s, my father, Joseph Cannon, established AJ Electric.
We have remained a family-owned business since our inception, with electricians across four generations.
For more than 15 years, I assisted my father before assuming control.
I continue to deliver the same high-quality service to the SF Bay Area.
For many years, we have held A+ ratings from the Better Business Bureau and Angie's List.
As a notable San Francisco company, we were featured on Channel Seven News, Seven on Your Side.
With 25 years in the electrical industry, I am a San Francisco native.
I attended St. Gabriel's and Riordan High School.
Driven by a passion for helping others and a strong connection to electricity, I have been providing electrical services with a smile throughout my teenage and adult years.
As a proud parent, I support my daughter Kristen, who is in high school at SF Waldorf and applying to UC colleges in Southern California.
I cherish the relationships I've built with customers over two decades and strive to be a pillar of excellence in my field.

I had a minor issue at the house, which was to figure out why the doorbell from the outside wasn't working in one flat, but it worked for the other. John came by on relatively short notice (which I greatly appreciated) and figured out the problem that another electrician couldn't (over the course of three hours!). He not only identified the issue, he finished inside an hour and a half, and that included a quick run to get a part he didn't have. Nice guy. He's actually from San Francisco (rare), comes from a family of electricians, and definitely knows his stuff. Would absolutely use him in the future and his rates are very reasonable.

I saw a one star review and couldn't imagine John and his team leaving a mess or being unprofessional. He absolutely knew what he was doing and explained what was going on well.

As of this review, he only had ten reviews, but don't let the lack of review volume deter you from at least reaching out and getting an estimate from him!

I've had John work on several projects for me over the last 3 or 4 years. He's always been great. My wife likes him because he leaves our place cleaned and neat, even mid-project. I once had an emergency issue on a weekend night, so I called a 24 hour service come. I asked them to look over another issue for us, to which he said he'd have to come back another time for because it's an all day job for $1,800. When John came he fixed it in 20 minutes and charged $120. Highly competent, honest, and easy to work and communicate with.

John is great. I have worked with him off and on over the past 9 years.

He installed 220 in my garage for my dryer back in 2007, track lighting in my kitchen in 2008, and some recessed lighting in my downstairs in 2010. He has also troubleshot and repaired some issues I had with my electrical to my furnace over the past couple years, saving me a bunch of money. He is super responsive and a great worker. I highly recommend John for any of your electrical needs.

John of A J Electric did a great job on the installation of motion-activated recessed outdoor lights, an Aiphone video intercom system, ethernet to three rooms, and bringing several kitchen outlets up to code with GFCI outlets. He also cleaned up a rats nest of old, dead wire that had been left behind after various telephone system and cable tv changes, plus worked with our DirecTV installer to run the HD cable so that no new holes had to be opened up in our walls or floors. He gave good recommendations on where he felt it was worth it to spend money and where we could find some savings.

I reached John by mistake, after getting a referral to a different AJ Electric in San Francisco from Buildzoom.com. I sent an email listing all of the work that I wanted done, and John pointed out my mistake but expressed interest in the job. He came out to take a look and provide a quote, which was quite reasonable. We'd just purchased our house and were anxious to get certain work complete prior to our move-in date, or as soon after the move-in date as possible. John was was very flexible and accommodating with the scheduling, working around our moving day and working most of the day on a Sunday to get everything done in the timeframe we were looking for. We ended up making some changes to the scope of work while he was here, and he gave us an updated estimate and stayed within that new estimate to get everything finished on budget.

The work was done over three days, with a gap of two days in between the start and finish to accommodate our moving day. At the end of each of the first two days all of the dust and debris were cleaned up and tools stacked neatly so as not to be in our way or in the way of the movers. John neatly labeled the new ethernet cables as well as the existing ethernet cables so that we can easily find the connections on the switch, and he also filled in a couple of missing labels for breakers on our electrical panel.

I will definitely call John again when we're ready to remodel our kitchen, and would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for an electrician who is knowledgeable about both low voltage and high voltage electrical work.

Worst electrician ever. Rude and unpleasant, very unproffesional. They also left a huge mess when they left and sub par job. Beware!!

John the electrician and owner of AJ Electric is very busy. It took some time before I received an official quote. However I did receive a rough estimate via text the day after he came to perform his estimate. He was punctual and on time the day of my appointment. He was very observant and respectful, for example he asked if he should remove his shoes before entering my home. His pricing is reasonable. His work is very thorough. He even patched up all the holes made in the closet. He came with his assistant Mike who was also a pleasure to work with. I had the following services: (1) an existing pull chain closet light converted to a LED strip light with a designated light switch; (2) a new LED closet light with designated switch was installed in a closet without an existing light source/power supply; and (3) a blown outlet was also replaced which was not even on my list of things to do but he took care of it.

John did a small residential job for me adding some security lights. They were on time and flexible with my schedule, did a great job, and cleaned up afterwards. They picked out the right fixtures for the job so I didnt have to think about it.

Guy came by late with no heads-up. A week later, I still don't have an estimate.

About A&J Electric
I called A&J electric to fix a broken breaker on my main switch box , the one that was getting power to the laundry washer , in the garage. Mike is a fast thinker, spot the problem in no time, got back to his shop to get the right module, tested thoroughly. Done ! I like that ...

If you want good service, nice guys, and prices that won't break the bank - do yourself a favor and call AJ Electric. After they bailed me out twice when I got just beyond my ability, I felt I had to add a review. They know their stuff and don't charge an arm and a leg. They also didn't try to do more work than was necessary.
