My air conditioner was giving me problems and I called out 3 companies today.
Was told I needed a new ac unit until
I had Dominic come out look at my unit plus my attic etc .. Dominic said your ac isn't broken I can put in a booster and a Uv light and I decided to get a service contract with them.
He said I should be fine with my unit for a number of years between my services and new parts .
I couldn't thank Dominic for his patience and knowledge.
I definitely recommend this company for your ac needs .
If you are hoping to pass inspection, look elsewhere. Our new ac just failed for the second time for the same reason as the first. We called the company this morning and no return call, much less an apology for the work days Ive spent at home. We will apparently have to hire someone else to fix it so that it passes inspection. We are/were long time customers who are very disappointed in their customer service.
BEWARE!! This company installed my Trane unit 9/12 years ago. Much has changed since then. It is not the same organization. Techs are well trained-to upsell. My air handler is mounted to garage ceiling. Water was leaking from the drip pan but was also emerging from the outside pipe. Tech Marc claimed it was a blockage and flushed it. During the visit he suggested: I buy a $400 blue light; buy an annual service contract and replace my fan motor. The fan motor ""suddenly was slow to start"". There was never an issue prior to his visit. It seemed coincidental that it happened to act up while he was at my home. When expressing that he commented I was watching him during the call-except when he sent me into the home twice to re-set the thermostat. After expressing my concern over the ""break-down timing"" it suddenly began working again. He suggested I replace the motor at a labor cost of $500. I later called another Trane dealer that quoted me a $240 labor fee to install a fan motor. When I questioned the $500 by asking how much time is needed their response was, ""We charge a flat rate-not based on labor time"".
He noted a burnt-out hard start device, removed & discarded it stating the AC will work without it. When talking to Trane warranty department, I was informed it was under their 10 year guarantee. They would have replaced it free but the old one had to be returned. Office manager Brenda stated it was trashed. So if I want a new one, I was out the $100-$200 part cost. There was nothing she could do.
I asked the life expectancy of my unit & he said 10-14 years. I questioned if it was worth the expense putting a significant money into a unit with a limited future. He quickly suggested investigating replacement estimate. Within 90 minutes salesman Bradley was at my door explaining the difference between the $5,800 Trane system and the $6,800 Rheem.
The package required me to trash the programmable thermostat sold to me & buy a new one. No worries as it is ""included"" in the proposal. I am sure the quote did not reflect the added cost. Right!
My leak continued resulting in a follow up visit by another tech who discovered a leak in the primary water tank. Thus, it appears there was never an obstruction. The original tech mis-diagnosed. OK, nobody is perfect. The 2nd tech went to his truck, called the office and then knocked on my door stating the office instructed him to collect a diagnostic fee which I refused. Why should I be subject to a fee for a problem that was missed? Air America decided to waive the fee, Good of them.
In my opinion, there are more reputable dealers in our area who place a greater commitment to customer service.
Robert B.I have been a long term customer who was satisfied with the work performed until recently. I had a complete HVAC system installed by them in Nov of 2017 which they have serviced twice a year under our maintenance contract. As part of that installation I had a Reme Halo (uv light system) installed for $895. In Nov of 2018 they replaced the Reme Halo under warranty as it stopped working.
In Dec of 2019 the day after a maintenance service the Reme Halo stopped working again. Since the tech was coming back out to replace a second uv light for $377, I asked them to have him fix the Reme Halo. He thought it was the bulb and replaced it with one from his truck. He wrote on the invoice that it was covered under warranty and there was no charge. Before he left the premises it stopped working and he then determined that it was the ballast which needed to be replaced. He called the office and ordered one and left.
One week later I received a call from Air America stating that the tech made a mistake and that the bulb warranty had expired and I would have to pay for the new bulb ($178). I said that since the bulb that was replaced was not the problem, I wanted my original bulb returned. They told me that since it was a week later they no longer had my bulb. I explained to them that I had been misled by the tech and had a receipt that stated it was replaced under warranty.
They held up replacing the ballast, which was covered under a 5 year warranty, for almost three weeks. Today they replaced the ballast, under warranty, which took the tech 10 minutes, start to finish, and charged me $178.50 in labor. Strangely it was the same price as the unnecessary bulb they wanted me to pay for.
The lack of taking responsibility for their errors is appalling. I am finished with them and cannot recommend them to anyone else. Be wary of their underhanded tactics and exorbitant labor charges.
Update: Two days later (1/1/20) the Reme Halo is not working again after being charged $178.50.
Too bad zero stars is not an option. If you buy an ac unit from them consider your money wasted. Here is how this will go. You'll install the units (which they claim you can easily do yourself). The installation will appear to be simple and straightforward. Once installed they will work questionably for a few months then stop all together....that's when your real problems will begin. They'll send you parts and instructions on how to repair them yourselves because you won't be able to find a licensed ac guy willing to work on them. So after several hours I was able to replace the fan motor on the inside unit with the new part they sent me. Next to fail was the outdoor unit. They sent ""their"" guy down from Miami to replace one unit and repair the other. I never got a bill and assumed they were paying him since the units were under warranty. Now one of the units has failed again (still under warranty). They said I have an unpaid bill for the last repair. The bill for the last repair includes repairing the unit that just failed....again. When I asked them why I was being billed for a unit that failed under warranty, was fixed under warranty and failed under warranty again he said it was due to ""improper installation"". In the same email he claims ""his"" guy fixed the improper installation the last time he was there and hence the reason for the bill. So the obvious question is.....if he fixed the problem last time he was there then why has it failed again???????????!!!!!!!!
My only solution. Throw all 6 units away (still under warranty) and buy new Mitsubishi's. Those are reliable units and people are willing to work on them if something is needed.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!
I would also question the validity of any of these good reviews as no one I know has had good luck with these units. Its also a well known fact that people usually only leave reviews when they are displeased.
Robert B.Stay away, they will charge you 10x for a thermostat you can get in homedepot, also charged me $168. for 10minutes labor!
The job was to clear a drain with a little compressed air ,and change out a thermostat. $452.00 !! In and out in 10 minutes! I later looked up the part it was $60.00 at homedepot. They charged $274.00! Very dishonest.
Arlene V.Had them come by the other day to see why my two year old central air unit kept shutting down. The guy was there maybe 5 minutes when he said he had to clean ""the pancake drain "". He asked for $198 and said it had dirt buildup and should be fine. After he left it was working but the temp was going up higher and higher to almost 90 degrees. When suddenly water started gushing out of the vent in the ceiling on to my brand newly installed floors . I then checked the thermostat and noticed this character had left it on ""heat""instead of cooling. When I called the office to tell them what happened and to please send back the guy because the unit keeps shutting down the person got very nasty and fresh and said i would have to wait till evening to get a return visit.....bottom line Stay far away from these con artists....they are the biggest rip off air conditioning company in South Florida. The only reason I used them was because I purchased the unit from home depot and they were the installers. By the way when I called home depot to find out if they are still contracted with them I was told that they had to change because there were hundreds of complaints about them.....Please use any other company if you do not want to get ripped off!!!
Very happy with the service and the price. Been a customer for a couple of years. They're honest, knowledgeable and courteous.
Angela R.**UPDATE** Air America sent a repair person out to repair the ceiling and wall. It looks better than before the leak. The paid for the repairs too. They are also refunding our maintenance contract and the cost of the freon from the first visit, but they are going to keep the contract in place for one year. They definitely went out of their way to make it right. The company was able to fix the problem and our air is working correctly now. They also sent a representative out to assess the damage. The company has agreed to repair the ceiling at their cost, refund our service agreement
Well, I managed to get back at these creeps a little bit, as I'm on the Board of my HOA, and when I found out we were using them for maintenance, I made sure they got replaced immediately with an AC outfit I used that was actually ethical and did the job they were contracted to do.
