I hired Jack to install a sub-panel, automatic transfer switch, and to re-locate 4 circuits from the main to the new sub-panel. I had gotten a few quotes and decided to hire him even though he wasn't the lowest but because he seemed nice and trustworthy. He came over and we discussed the install. He was going to install a 100A sub-panel and transfer switch.

When he showed up, he had a big 125A panel and had to leave to go get the breakers. I had marked out the 4 circuits I wanted moved using painters tape and had written the names of the circuits on it using a Sharpie.

He installed the big panel not leaving any room for the transfer switch and had to move over the sub-panel. Then he moved over the circuits and finished up.

That night I was testing the circuits and found that he moved the wrong circuit. He moved over the smoke detector circuit, not the loft circuit like I had requested. When I asked him to come back to fix, he argued the circuits were mislabeled in my main panel. I told him I turned on all the lights in my loft and turned off the breaker which turned off power in my loft which verified the labeling was correct. He refused to come back unless I paid him a minimum of $200 to fix his own mistake.

When I opened the sub-panel I noticed his workmanship was crap. He didn't even bother to try and get all the strands of the copper wire into the terminals. He didn't label any of the relocated breakers in the new sub-panel which is why I had to test the circuits.

I would not recommend him.
