My dishwasher was leaking from the front door and I called 1st plumbing to ask if they could make sure it wasn't a clogged pipe or something. It was a Saturday and Justin came within 45 minutes. It wasn't a clogged pipe but the gasket on the front door of the dishwasher had eroded. He charged me the $100 for coming on a Saturday, which I had been told in advance, and even though he worked for about 30 minutes there was no additional charge. I will be calling 1st Plumbing for all my plumbing needs in the future. Fast, courteous, transparent with regard to fees, and a very professional person in Justin.
Julianna S.It's very convenient that these guys are available on the weekends. I called on the weekend. The dude scheduled me for first thing Monday morning. Another dude came found the problem with my bathtub overflow drain, and fixed it right away. It cost $145 and took very little of my time and effort. Thanks! I wish I had called sooner. So far so good on the overflow drain now working properly.
Phil A.We had a leak under the slab in our house after a recent cold freeze. I called 4 other plumbing outfits, getting nothing but recorded messages, before I got a real person at the phone at 1st Plumbing.
Steven and his helper arrived and calmly allayed our fears and concerns that we might have a major (and expensive) disaster on our hands.
As it turned out, tracking down the leaking culprit pipe was more involved than Steven originally estimated (took 2 1/2 days), but they stuck with it until they finally discovered the bad pipe, buried some 2 feet down, and corrected the problem without needing to dig into the foundation. Although it took longer than any of us expected, Steven stuck with the original estimate.
Yes, these situations can be expensive, but then responsiveness and results are worth a lot in my book!
Oh, and afterward they carefully cleaned up after themselves, including nicely restoring the dirt in the ditches they had to dig to find the pipes.
Waly P.Most Expensive Solution Imaginable: I said No Thanks.
Our problem was a washer drain hose line that had backed up, causing water to spill back into our laundry room annex every time we washed a load. I called 1st plumbing and they showed up as scheduled. The young man was very polite and very nice. We went under the house and looked at the lines. I wrongly thought that something needed replacing and he suggested a whole new line with PVC replacing the galvanized with a new p-trap and getting rid of the old cast iron one. That sounded great to me, if a bit overkill. I just wanted to know how much. After he retired to the van to consult with his boss, he came back with an estimate of $970! That was parts and labor (two people at a total of $180 an hour). My calculator says that $180 x 4= 720. $970-$720=$250 for around 20 feet of PVC and a few couplings. Retail on that is around $40. Now, the labor charge of $180 per hour is stratospheric to begin with, but then to tack on a couple hundred dollars for parts. Wow.
I said thanks but not thanks, paid them $35 for the call--a bargain if you know how to use the word ""no,"" and hightailed it to Harbor Freight. There I bought a big ass pipe wrench (24 inch baby) for around $13. I came back, got the vertical drain pipe off. Then I used a hand snake I had around to get to the clog--I watched a great and disgusting YouTube video on how to use it. Well worth the 15 minutes. After seemingly breaking through some minor clog, I pulled the snake back out, cleaned the threads of the pipe and the coupling, used Teflon tape to seal the deal and joined them back together. I stuck the drain hose back in and started a load. Long story short: success! Around 90 minutes, $30 if you count the hand snake I had lying around, and that was that. My savings, $940. Now, if they had said $500, I would have gone for it. $970 was outrageous. It seemed to me that the business model here is to offer the most expensive solution possible hoping for some sucker to say yes. It's worth the $35 risk for them to do that, especially when they charge $180 for labor. This one's an easy call. Go elsewhere!
Christy P.Great experience with 1st Plumbing Services. We had a late-night plumbing disaster and they talked us through how to get things under control until morning so we could avoid an after hours service call. They had a plumber out first thing the next morning who was prompt, courteous, and competent. He explained everything before he did it, did exactly what he said, and the final bill was what he quoted us before he began. We'll definitely call 1st Plumbing the next time we need a plumber. Excellent service.
Lori H.Called them to fix a drain and a dishwasher. They explained that the charged a ""fee for service"" rather than by the hour & said I would probably do better that way. After working about an hour, they presented me with a $450 bill. And a day later, I discovered they hadn't fixed the problem. Total rip-off.
We called 1st plumbing because we had a problem with low water pressure. 1st plumbing misrepresented that they could fix our low water pressure issue. The plumber completed $440 worth of work and installed a part that would NEVER fix the low water pressure problem. The part they installed is used to regulate high water pressure, which was the complete opposite of the problem we had. After the work was completed and they charged us the $440, the plumber said, well, the problem is really with the city line. The company acknowledged that their plumber ""should have done more research"" before installing a part that would do absolutely nothing to correct the low water pressure. They still refuse to refund the money we paid for work that was absolutely worthless, even though we now have more plumbing issues as a direct result of the work they completed.
This is the second time I've used these guys, and I couldn't be happier. They do a great job explaining what needs to be done and what the challenges/benefits are, and they totally hooked us up, helping us get done what needed to get done without breaking the bank. Great service, very helpful and friendly.
Phillip M.I had a weekend/holiday plumbing service performed. It was expensive as you would expect, but the on-call plumber was very friendly and gave me some things to try on the phone that could help prevent them from coming out at all. I thought that was above and beyond. When he did arrive he was friendly and professional. He arrived quickly and on time and then got right to work to make sure to minimize labor costs. I would use 1st plumbing again, in an emergency or not. Great service.
Susan R.These folks are so professional and extremely helpful when I needed them most. They cleaned a serious mainline clog for me, late on a cold and wet February day. I can not thank them enough.
